Experience with an out of state transfer? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by thedopefreshest
I am looking to transfer from the Midwest back to the west coast within the year. I will have been with the bux as a partner for just over a year, and about six months as a shift. I know I won’t be able to transfer as a shift as I haven’t been working in that position for a year (which I think is the minimum requirement), so as a partner my question is: If you’ve gone through this transfer process, what did it entail? How much notice did you need to give for the transfer? How long did the process take from beginning to end? Was the transfer a guarantee? Thanks in advance!

it was honestly very easy on my end. i let my manager know that i was planning on moving and she actually suggested the transfer before i was able to bring it up. i let her know about a month before my intended last day & provided her with the location(s) i was hoping for; she facilitated the rest. she kept me up to date every step of the way & from start to finish it all took about 3 weeks.

i provided three locations that were close to my new residence (perks of a city!) & i think that helped. had i been dead set on one it might’ve worked out less favorably. i wouldn’t say the transfer was a guarantee but i also wasn’t super worried about it.

i hope this helps!

Thank you so much for replying! This definitely helps, as I have nobody that I know who has even tried to transfer out of state. There was somebody at my store who tried to transfer just to a town over in the same state and our manager told her the transfer would take two months… So that is what my concern was. But I’m glad to hear that your transfer went smoothly! I hope mine does as well!

i know that someone from my store transferred within state but out of district & had a really difficult time doing it. i think it did take over a month? so with that in mind i knew i wanted to give plenty of time for it to happen without starting the process *too* early & then having to scramble to move everything else (intended move-in, etc) up :-)

definitely keep an open line of communication with your manager! don’t be afraid to check-in if you haven’t heard anything or are worried about some specific detail.
