So a customer is going to sue us (self.starbucksbaristas)

She spilt some tea water on her hand at handoff. Does anyone have experience with this situation? I’m nervous AF because I was the shift on duty. I don’t want to be involved or lose my job.

It’s hard to sue a company over something like this. Once it’s in her hand it’s her responsibility. It would be different if you freshly mopped and they slipped or there was ice outside and they slipped in front of your store.

Okay phew so this shouldn’t become a big thing!!!

No way, that's the reason there's "contents may be hot" or something like this written on the cups, once they take it, it's not your fault any more because they have been warned. It's a so-called disclaimer

Right? Plus she came in later in the day after getting assessed at the hospital and one of the partners said it was looking gnarly. I was like???????? I spill that tea water on my hand all of the time (splashes of it like she did) and I’ve never had a visible burn. It’s so sketch I hate people sometimes lmao

i burn myself alllll the time bc i’m BIG dumb. i’ve spilled that tea water allll over my palm before and yeah, it hurt. but didn’t leave a physical burn especially bc i slapped some burn cream on it. it really shouldn’t be that gnarly.

Let me guess, white, probably blonde, 40-50 years old, skinny, and probably with curls? That's the exact kind of person I've experienced a couple of times making that big of a case of something they fucked up

Tbh, I wouldn't stress it. The number of customers who've spilled their coffees, lattes, and teas on themselves is astronomically high. And I have yet to see a lawsuit go through against Starbucks..... Its on the cup that the drink is very hot. Once its in their hand its their issue.
Also, I have had another shift accidentally pour hot water fron the brewer down his arm and hand, for a solid 20 seconds before he felt it. He was a bit red and stingy but it didn't leave permanent marks.
Deep breaths. Chances are she's a lot of hot air with no actual follow through.

They will pull the tape if she does sue and look and see what went down. You won’t be liable, there’s a warning on the cup that contents may be hot. Stupid greedy asshats.

Suing over hot coffee is an example used commonly of a frivolous lawsuit. Seinfeld made an episode about it too when Kramer burns himself with a latte. Sorry this happened, but not your fault, and I would not waste too much worry on it.
