Massive freak out by a customer (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SadType8
Had an older lady come through DT when I was on DTO and ordered a regular latte. I ask her what size, and she tells me grande. At this point you could hear her getting frustrated. I then ask if she wants any flavoring and she said no. Then the kicker, I ask if it’s hot or iced. Standard question, right? Wrong. She then flips out calling me an idiot because she obviously wants it hot, why would I ask her that, and do I even know how to do my job? As she’s cursing me out, my SSV gets on the headset to apologize and let her know it’s a standard question that we all have to ask, since she didn’t say a hot latte when she was ordering.

She calms down somewhat and drives up to the window, though not before telling my SSV that I need to be trained better 🤷🏻‍♀️ I hand her her drink, which she then looks at with complete disgust. She tells me she ordered a venti not a grande. At this point I’m just trying to get her out of there. I tell her sorry, we can definitely make it a venti, I just have to charge her the difference since I had rung it up as a grande. She huffs at me and tells me it’s fine, she’ll take the grande. As I hand her her change she then takes a sip and yells that she wanted vanilla in it. I then offer to put vanilla but she gets angry, says she will be talking to my SM, and drives off.

Sometimes I question customers and their sanity..

I feel like something like this happens at least once a day at my store... like we purposely want to make drinks wrong? 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
People are seriously insane sometimes...

They just want it free

They probably want someone else to blame for their own mistakes. A drive-thru catharsis, if you will

How on earth would a rude costumer get that drink for free
amazing_redhead 2 points 3y ago
They wear you down. Or they get the manage who will just let them have it to get them to leave

Right? I’m asking you all these questions so I can make the correct drink and not have to hold up the DT to remake something that’s wrong. I’m not out to personally attack you by asking simple questions.

But yet she would be mad if you gave it to her as a ice drink i would have pull out my hair

I live in an area where most of our customers order iced drinks, so if I didn’t clarify, the bar person likely would have made it iced. I don’t even want to think of how she would have reacted to that.

I am beginning to think they have an ulterior motive and its pretty cruel

There’s no sanity in that head.

You should definitely question their sanity and dont let it even phase you. Thats a miserable person. If not bipolar they are just 100% depressed and loose canonangry 24/7. Plus caffeine addiction withdrawal makes you irritated

I never understand why partners insist on asking a bunch of questions and then being confused as to why customers get irritated. I get clarifying size but if someone just orders a latte it’s safe to assume that they just want..... a latte. Maybe customers are different where I live but this is rarely an issue. Edit before people come for me: I see the part about the vanilla syrup.....

I agree with this to a certain extent. If a customer seems irritated, I will ask as few questions as possible and be as quick as I can in an attempt to avoid conflict.

This. It just makes the situation worse. People can downvote me but it’s true.

I understand where you’re coming from, and like I said, I could already tell she was irritated just from asking what size she wanted. That’s why I was trying to be as nice and quick as possible, by asking if she wanted just a regular latte with no flavoring and if it was hot or iced. 3 questions really isn’t a lot. I wasn’t expecting a complete blow up where she started yelling and cussing me out. And if I don’t ask if someone wants it hot or iced, I then have the bar person in my ear telling me to clarify before they pull around, because a lot of people get iced lattes at my store and very rarely do we have someone ordering hot. Even without that, she still told me she wanted a grande and no flavoring, but then got mad when she got exactly that, so I feel like she was having a bad day and decided to take it out on a complete stranger.
