I work at a Starbucks in a target and it is the worst thing ever. We will have one barista scheduled for hours and the lines get so long. No one in the store even knows how to help out so I’m stuck alone running all the stations and trying to close in 30 minutes by myself. Is working at a corporate store any easier?

Yes, from my understanding, your pay may decrease but you have the option for a lot more benefits. Also there are always at least three people working at all times (sometimes two if one of the three is on a break but this is normally during the slower times.)

I've thought of this i work at a tarbucks and it was so mentally exhausting working during the holidays alone and we didn't have a manger for the 4months i worked there

Lol my team lead will leave for hours and comes back with nothing done. She claims to go to the back but nothing ever gets done and she never understands ordering so we have 40 white mochas in the back currently and get new boxes of them every Thursday

I worked at a licensed store inside of a hotel, which I loved but lacked the benefits of a corporate store. When I moved away for college, I tried getting a job at a corporate store but didn’t ever hear anything. So I went to a Tarbucks, thinking that since I worked at a licensed store before, it wouldn’t be that bad. Plus the $13 an hour was a great incentive.
I only worked at Tarbucks for about two months before I literally just walked out one day. I was so fucking tired of the mistreatment and the bullshit that I had to just leave. My mental health was awful JUST because of that shit hole. I used to be the most kind, people pleasing, walk all over me kind of person that exists. And I still just up and walked out because it was THAT bad. I would never in my life had imagined that as something I would do. But I had to. I didn’t even have another job lined up at the moment. It was a hard few weeks. But still, it was worth it.
Get out. Please. As soon as you can. Take your experience and really try to go to a corporate store. My quality of life improved tenfold by switching to corporate. Yeah, you get paid less. And yeah, sometimes it’s shitty too. But I really would honestly say that it’s more worth it. Weekly coffee mark outs amount to like $14 week. Spotify, headspace (as much as everyone shits on it, i loved meditating before so it’s nice for me), etc. A free food item when you work. Free drinks out the wazoo. And most importantly, help. Extra baristas to help you. Help during lines and peaks. Help from shifts and managers, especially when dealing with challenging customers. It’s worth it to not have to deal with every challenge completely alone.

That’s what I was thinking... was it a hard transition over? I know at Tarbucks we do a lot of stuff different then corporate
stellarscully1 points3y ago
it wasn’t too hard of a transition, but i think that’s bc of my hotel licensed store. when i worked at the hotel, we had all the same sandwiches + pastries, and every drink that a normal sbux would have. plus, my manager and two of my shifts, plus numerous coworkers were all brought in from a corporate store to “fix things up”, so i pretty much got trained the corporate way.
when i went to Tarbucks, everything was sooo different. hardly any of the sandwiches, only some pastries, no one knew or even followed standard. i saw everyone constantly making drinks incorrectly. i had two coworkers who never got trained on drink builds. they just watched how other baristas did it and tried to do their best. so i think of i had not worked at the hotel store, the transition would’ve been a bit harder.
however, my manager at my corporate store took the time to give me the corporate barista training, which acted as a good refresher on the basics and helped fill some of the gaps that my OG licensed training never gave me. so regardless, by the time my training ended i was all caught up. and since coming to my corporate store, everything is significantly better. you have the same rude people from time to time, but ultimately you’re better equipped to handle things and everyone is super nice and helpful in getting you adjusted. you’re never left alone on a shift!! and my fellow partners want me to succeed so that we can succeed as a team. it’s really amazing.

At mine, we are never schedule by ourselves for more than one hour.

It's really depends. I'm a Leader at a Tarbucks and we have little turn over. Most of my staff has been with the store for years! I write the schedule to have at least 2, if not 4, people when I know times are busy. Usually during winter 1 promo we staff light because hours are tigher, but this usually only means you are alone for no more than 2 hours. But during Summer, Fall and Holiday promo we have at least 2 people open-close and usually a 3rd on weekdays, but up to 4 or 5 on weekends. So it seems like your store isnt using all the hours that they are getting. Our CC scores are the highest in the district and our Comp scores are always rising! So we always get more hours. Plus, I actually train my staff with the proper Starbucks materials!
I tried working at a Corp. Store and I couldn't cut it! My co workers were mean, the store was insanely busy open to close. I felt like much of the staff just wanted to socialize, instead of work... so I often picked up a lot of the slack. After 3 months I left and went to Tarbucks! It's way less stressful and my team actually works. So overall I guess it just depends 🤷♀️

Corporate stores must always have at least 2 employees in the store at all times, so you'll never open or close by yourself.

It depends if you just need a job or if you’re looking for something more long term that has better benefits. Personally since I’m still in college and Starbucks will not be my career, I prefer Tarbucks over corporate (I’ve worked in both). You make more money, it’s half the work as corporate and you get a Target discount. But idk that’s just my opinion. But I definitely agree with what you’re saying. We had 7 baristas and then they hired 2 seasonal for the holidays. Makes sense. But then they kept those seasonal workers on so now we have 9 baristas and everyone only works maybe 10-15 hours a week when we were all working 20-25 before but they still schedule solo openers/closers every day including weekends. One Saturday (our second busiest day after Sunday) I worked from 10-4 by myself during peak rush. There are definitely so many things Tarbucks can improve on (mainly scheduling and the fact that Target doesn’t care about us one bit) but from my experience working in a corporate store, Tarbucks is better and has better guests!
