Stupid reasons you always have to remake drinks(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by chuhai-drinker
Mine is when the drink comes out and people are like “Wait, a grande isn’t a large size?” despite having sample cups with the names of the sizes right in front of the register.
Listen... If you don’t know Starbucks sizes, which is fine and understandable, *please* just say small, medium, large.

ok this is absurd but i swear it happens. we have a semi regular customer named John who usually mobile orders a DECAF quad shot nonfat cappuccino. i’ve had to remake it a few times before because the decaf wasn’t strong enough. my last shift, he upped it to 5 shots. now i always ask Mr John to try it whenever he picks it up and see if it’s right because i’ve had to remake it so many times. yesterday when he tried it, it asked for 2 more decaf shots. making 7 total. at what point do you just switch to regular espresso!!! and i need to clarify, mr john is a fairly young guy. like he looks about 40 so i don’t see why he doesn’t drink regular espresso

Strong enough as in flavor, or strong enough as in caffeine? Wtf dude

My favorite thing is those teenage girls who come in and ask for a grande at the register, even when we have the cup sizes displayed and confirm that they want a grande, then come up to bar and say they wanted a venti with light ice 🤦♂️

This was also a tik Tok "hack" awhile ago to get a free upgrade. I'm not one to argue with customers because mistakes happen but you can tell when they're up to no good 🙃
mmmmm55555519 points3y ago
C: “Can we keep the other one? I mean it’s already made” *throws drink down the sink* Me: “Sorry what did you say? :-)”
iloveg2pens4 points3y ago
lmfaooo i'll only offer them the other one if genuinely there was a mistake in making their drink or if they don't ask for their already-made drink because i know they're prob not trying to get a free drink out of it
mmmmm5555552 points3y ago
I’ve offered plenty of incorrectly made drinks out for free, especially when we have a green bean on register!

I will only ask "iced or hot" when one orders a caramel macchiato. I even teach my partners to ask. It's literally the only drink ordered wrong 1557% of the time.

People don’t remember to say they want lemonade in their refresher at my store. Most people seem to think it’s part of the drink by default. For us, that’s the only drink where I ask and double check because people constantly order it wrong.
JustForBrowsing12 points3y ago
"Do you want it with the water or with lemonade?"
Arianasagapo10 points3y ago
Some lady literally got mad at me for asking...
“Why would you ask me that? No ones ever asked me that”
I_love_you_drugs16 points3y ago
“No ones ever asked me that” is one of my least favorite things people say like... I don’t care. I’m asking you now. Then I start to realize that some people have never been asked certain questions because the barista just wanted them to leave so they just smiled and nodded.
chuhai-drinker [OP]3 points3y ago
DUDE people get mad at me about it too. I just explain to them that they’re two separate drinks in our system and people usually forget to mention they want lemonade. Most of them tend to understand.

“My extra hot isn’t hot enough”
CriticalSheep9 points3y ago
We have a woman who comes through our DT and demands that her drink be no less than 195 degrees. She has even pulled out a meat thermometer to test it before...while in the drive thru.
chuhai-drinker [OP]3 points3y ago
That is EXTRA AF. Some people just get such a high from treating food service employees like shit
CriticalSheep3 points3y ago
Oh that's not all. Her order is a Grande skinny mocha, stirred at least twice, filled to the brim, absolutely no foam (she will send it back even if she sees bubbles), no whip and scalding hot, at least 195 degrees. Double cupped, sleeve and a stopper.

Past a certain temperature the proteins in the milk denature and make the milk taste like eggs. Do you like the flavor of eggy lattes?
Also I don’t know if other Starbucks stores have newer machines that are better able to customize temperature, but it doesn’t help that on our ancient Mastrenas, we have to steam it manually while holding the pitcher. When people ask for their lattes to be steamed to 190 I always wimp out and stop steaming at 180 because the milk boils over and burns my hands.

Cloud macchiatos 🙄

A customer that comes in every day and orders a cappuccino and wants it with “less foam and more cappuccino”. Every. Day.

“Oh oops, I forgot to say I wanted it with soy milk.”

"Hi, um, I just ordered a cappuccino, but it's like, a bunch of foam. Why?"
soraah972 points3y ago
Mine was during black Friday (europe) , no space to sit anywhere in the store , we just kept giving all our drinks in paper cups. A woman was mad , and I mean MAD cause she wanted her cappuccino on a mug. We did it , she kept complaining and wanted to file a complaint...

Right now it’s people not ordering the right Pineapple drink. Matcha, or Golden. It’s not that hard people. Read the sign lol
kvllifornia-23 points3y ago
99.99% of the time these mistakes can be prevented by DTO if they just ask the right questions and confirm correctly. Also picking up on customer cues like hey if they sound unsure maybe explain the drink to them???
SteampoweredClock14 points3y ago
99.99% of the time, these customers don't know what they actually want and blame us. Don't blame your partners, nobody will like you
dalydesserts12 points3y ago
Wow blaming fellow staff members is deffinitly going to lead to a healthy, productive workplace
kvllifornia-11 points3y ago
It’s just the truth lol, we can’t do anything about the customers not knowing what they want. That’s literally our job. Yeah it gets frustrating but instead of saying “well that’s what they asked for” or “well that’s what they said” or “well they didn’t say iced” and making your fellow baristas remake drinks wasting labor and supplies is what’s not a productive workplace, you can easily just ask the few questions it takes to save everybody’s time instead of being petty. If you don’t know how to help a customer order that’s what’s going to make your bar baristas not like you.
CriticalSheep14 points3y ago
Say I ordered a Triple Grande Mocha. What would your response be? Would you ask me if I want it iced? Would you ask me if I wanted a tall? Would you ask me if I wanted white mocha? Would you ask me if I was comfortable with just 2% milk or did I want any dairy alternatives?
How many customers are pissed off at you when you ask all these questions?
