A son tried to pay a $15 order with **a hundred dollar bill** and I told him I couldn't take it. His mom whips out her card, and I'm like okay, cool, normal interaction. *Then* she says all snobby "The other stores take it, why can't you"

Me: Well, they shouldn't, and I don't have the cash in my drawer to break that. You can try \[these other places nearby\] to break your bill though.

C: Are you the manager here?!

Me: Uh, no....

C: Then don't tell me to go to another store to break my bill!

Me: ....It was just a suggestion.............

C: \*gurgle gurgle gurgle\* idk I tuned her out so I wouldn't spit in her face, but I think it was along the lines of "I didn't ask for a suggestion"

then I made her drink properly and she asked yelled at my bar partner to remake her drink because I fucked something or another up. idk but she can choke. and her son who didn't say/do anything, not even look sheepish about about the fact that his mom was acting a rude bird. her fucking behavior had me all sorts of fucked up for like two hours afterwards. I've never wanted to purposefully fuck up someone's drink until that gremlin ass bitch (which I didn't!!!).

Wow! Crazy! We have always been told we have to take money. Money is money. I sometimes will give back rolls of coins, but I will take it 😏

Idk about your store, but during training my shifts told me to not take 50s if I can help it, defo no 100s unless it's like a big big order. Money is only money if I'm able to make change, and I had a line so I wouldn't have been able to be petty and give her rolls even if I wanted D:

Damn. I dunno I’m a 7 year partner and in three different districts ( Chicago land area) we always took it. But I am sure some stores are different! I just tell them sometimes they will get rolls of coins back if they have give that to me and usually they are able to find a credit card. Lol.

Yeah my store won't take anything over a 20 unless it's a big order

There are many factors to consider. First, why would you want to clean out your till giving back change to one customers and potentially not having change for subsequent customers? Then if you’re cleaned out, then you need to bother the supervisors to give you change which involves opening the safe. What if it’s in the middle of a big rush? What if it’s at night and you work at a high incident store? I know different stores have their rules but I find it best to not always accept them. Exercise best judgment and if the customers are grumpy, let that be it.

Nah fam you're right. Maybe it's a New York thing for Starbucks. I remember one lady wanted to break a 100 for a tall like and my manager was blasting in my headset to not take it, doesn't matter the area, those bills could be fake and then we'll be held accountable. He told me get on average 6 fake large bills a month. Ain't no one is coming after my job like this for tryna break big bills in a small coffee shop, chain or not.

I used to work in a gas station. People would try to use $100 bills all the time despite us not being forced to accept them. People would try to fight you over not accepting them, and I would tell them to go to the bank next door and they’d get all pissed. I don’t get why people would ever use a $100 bill. I’ve only used them to pay bills in cash. If I got them as a gift, they go right to the bank to be deposited and/or broken down

I couldn’t care less about how people pay, but we normally don’t have change to make for $100. Sure I can give her ALL my drawer, but where does that leave me? It’s not worth the trouble...go to the store that you say takes it. Bye girl.

We’re not allowed to turn down any tender at my store. You just have to give them what you have. Which is usually always the whole till.

Ooh, enraging. I have a similar story to share:

I’m on dtw, and my shift literally had *just* told me not to take 100s from anyone because we didn’t have change for them in the morning.

Anyways, this lady pulls up, and she tries to hand me a 100 dollar bill. I say, “I’m sorry ma’am, but I can’t take a 100”
“Excuse me! Your manager just said I could!!!”
“My supervisor literally just told me I couldn’t”
“That’s bullshit, they told me at the order screen they could take it”
I look over and try to talk to my dto partner and my supervisor and he says to take it.

Apparently, they were trying to say that only this woman could pay with 100, but no one after because we wouldn’t have enough change for it. Wow, thanks for making that clear.
I turn back to the woman and inform her I can in fact, take her $100 for her $5 fucking coffee

She looks so smug I want to punch her teeth in.
“See, I knew they could”
“It was a misunderstanding ma’am. My supervisor had just told me before you pulled up I was not allowed to take 100 dollar bills.”

I hand off her order and give her her change.

“Well, you *must* be new here”
“Nope, just doing what I’m told”

I have never wanted to throttle a customer more, and she comes through drive thru every single day. My rage is still as strong as ever when I see her. She always just seems so smug and condescending.

usually the person has an alt form of payment that they don’t wanna use, but when i couldn’t break a 100 bill on a $5.29 venti mocha i got two handfuls of nickels and dimes to count out instead
