Anyone else scared of getting the virus while at work? Even with the new protocol about cups and such, we are still interacting with 100s of people a day. It’s like this huge company is just waiting for a bunch of their employees to get super sick before they do anything about it.

I’m super worried. And I work at one of our largest locations. And I am annoyed that all we are doing is 30 minute hard-stops for hand washing. I don’t feel safe.
abigail30875 points3y ago
they said that no action will be taken against you if you have a legitimate and well-founded fear that you are at risk, a loved one who lives with u is at risk, or that you urself have been exposed to the virus. in fact, i read somewhere about getting catastrophe pay or something like that. idk i would look into it if you genuinely dont feel safe and maybe talk to ur sm or to the partner help people (idk what they’re called but like our version of hr - partner resources maybe...?)
allergic_to_nut5 points3y ago
Yeah I was told that, but when I told a higher up I was worried they were like unless starbucks is told by the government they have to close the doors, the doors won’t be closed. And I work in arguably the most dangerous one at the moment. And we aren’t even allowed to wear gloves.
DontSendMeUrNudes4 points3y ago
New communications say that you are allowed to wear gloves while going into cafe during the customer support cycle.
abigail30873 points3y ago
oh no im so sorry. i mean, if it comes between your health and your job id like to say that you are more important and there will always be more job opportunities. also, if they fire you for using sick time, they could have a lawsuit on your hands. just please try to stay safe💖

What if you’re dad has a a disease that suppressed his immune system? Does that qualify for taking leave? My dads immune system is extremely weak, not entirely sure what it is that causes it, but I’m sure it has to do with his thyroid being taken out and the amounts of radiation treatment he’s gone through. My biggest fear is bringing it home to him and then he dies because of me
allergic_to_nut1 points3y ago
Yes. You have potential of bringing it home to him, I strongly urge you to talk to your manager.
abigail30871 points3y ago
i honestly have no idea, it seems so but idk how they’re basing it. i would speak to your manager or partner resources maybe
yontytaw [OP]4 points3y ago
Agreed.
_Pulltab_24 points3y ago
I think you have to assume that everyone (or near everyone) will eventually get this virus. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue to wash your hands, protect yourself, etc. . The goal of closing schools, canceling events, other forms of social distancing isn’t to prevent the spread, it’s to SLOW the spread so that those who do have really adverse reaction don’t all wind up sick with it at once and overwhelm the healthcare system.
ajades101320 points3y ago
This. 80% of people will get it and recover. It’s just scary if EVERYONE gets it at once
yontytaw [OP]16 points3y ago
I understand this. It's just kind of upsetting that so many places that receive less traffic are getting shut down to protect employees but like we are forced to continue to risk our health. Maybe I'm being stupid.
tragicalyhappy8 points3y ago
You're not stupid, it's a legitimate concern. But also keep in mind Starbucks closes for no one.
yontytaw [OP]3 points3y ago
Lol fr fr

If someone sneezes or coughs directly at you within 6 ft be concerned. If you are touching things without washing your hands and then touching your mouth/face be concerned. Otherwise if you’re properly sanitizing touch surfaces in store every hour, washing your hands every 30 minutes, and no one sneezes or coughs at you without covering their mouth, you’re gonna be just fine.
yontytaw [OP]1 points3y ago
I can't control these customers haha. I just interacted with a couple that was sneezing uncontrollably and they were directly sneezing at the window. Good thing it was closed.
crzyshiba3 points3y ago
But Then customers received an email about on taking mobile and DT orders.. So I’m confused

Do you guys not have your milks out? Like you have to add the milk for them at reg.
abigail30872 points3y ago
i work in a drive thru only so idk what actual policy is but ive been to three other sbux stores in my area (2 corporate and 1 tarbux) and none of them had any carafes out so im guessing not
yontytaw [OP]1 points3y ago
Same I also work at a drive thru only but my old store doesn't have there's out.
abigail30871 points3y ago
ahh so im guessing carafes are a no-go for safety measures
yontytaw [OP]1 points3y ago
Yeah. I was actually just told that someone went to the condiment bar and put their hand in the raw sugar stock so they had to throw the box away.
