Full stop: this company isn’t going to do anything to prioritize our health and well-being until it’s too late and we all know it.
We need to strike and we need to do it now.
Coming in contact with hundreds of customers a day is not safe for anyone & it’s only going to make the spread of the virus worse and many of us are going to get it.
If the company will not prioritize our health then we have to prioritize it ourselves.

There was literally a communication two days ago telling partners that if they’re experiencing symptoms to stay home and they will be qualified for disaster pay for two weeks. If you’re feeling sick/experiencing coronavirus symptoms they’ll pay you for two weeks of work to stay home. So yes, they have prioritized it and gone above and beyond more than other employers out there.
20kaisera25 points3y ago
They need to close doors and pay everyone for two weeks. After that they need to restrict hours and only allow drive through.
_Pulltab_9 points3y ago
That’s not going to protect anyone. 80% of the population is going to get this, according to the CDC. It’s just a matter of when. Closing schools, canceling events, etc, is only an attempt to slow the spread so they don’t overwhelm the healthcare system with those who experience complications (elderly, immunosuppressive day, etc).
PhenomenalPhoenix8 points3y ago
Going drive through only is a good idea in theory. However there are many stores that don’t have drive through. And then what about licensed stores? Licensed stores don’t have through or mobile ordering. If Starbucks decides drive through only, there are a lot of stores that wouldn’t be able to be open.
Although apparently it is being considered: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.seattletimes.com/business/starbucks-stores-may-go-drive-thru-only-or-limit-seating/%3famp=1
NOTcreative--7 points3y ago
That will cripple the company and no one will have a job and is not feasible playing into the false media fear being instilled. You’re talking about a $1.84 billion dollar sacrifice for something that’s affected less than 1% of the population. Not even counting missed income from closing stores. If you factor that another $1.2 billion in profits. Assuming this passes over in two weeks. So $3 billion dollar hit for something not as rampant as the fear media would have you think. If you feel sick stay home and get paid for it. That is a bigger sacrifice than any other company.
dodofishman1 points3y ago
Peoples lives are on the line here lol and you still think profit is the concern. This is the problem with the world tbh
NOTcreative--1 points3y ago
Consider the communities that rely on us to be open to have a third place for them. People need their normal every day lives and look to us. Closing stores for two weeks won’t help stop the spread only reinforce the widespread panic which isn’t needed.
20kaisera12 points3y ago
Oh so when we are sick then we don’t have to come to work??? Makes sense right? There should be preventative measures executed immediately.
NOTcreative-5 points3y ago
There have been. We sit in meetings every week about it. Reinforcing standard policies. Wipe down all hand touch surfaces every hour. Wash your hands every 30 minutes. Don’t touch personal cups, make sure all labels are pointed outwards to reduce people touching drinks that aren’t theirs.
20kaisera25 points3y ago
My SM has not enforced any preventative cleaning methods and I can guarantee many have not. We are still being pushed about drive times and customer connection scores rather than cleanliness.
beccaboo2u6 points3y ago
Same
NOTcreative-3 points3y ago
Well bring that up to your DM because the company focus is preventing the spread of coronavirus, not window times. If your manager is slacking on it im sure your DM would love to know since they spend even more time than we do in meetings about it.
tictacstar-1 points3y ago
Oh, you sit in meetings every week about it, how dedicated. And now what, you're sitting on your couch while I am sitting here in the break room wondering if that guy who sneezed over all the syrups.... seriously? The customers bring their cups to the counter for refills and take the lid off and put it mouth hole down on the counter. Reinforcing standard policies does not control the customers, they will spit right into your mouth while they talk to you at the register. So hard not to say anything uncivil to you right now.
NOTcreative-0 points3y ago
Hi, you’re scared I get it. I’ve been on the floor plenty with my partners, 30 hours a week. In fact I’m annoyed at the meetings because they pull me from being on the floor with them. If we stay calm and focus on the facts and science, Starbucks has a team of microbiologists and coordinating with the CDC for what effective prevention is and constantly updating us. I do doubt a customer sneezed directly on your stripes, it may have felt like it but in reality they were probably a few feet away and covered their mouth. A customer puts their lid on the counter, wipe it down.
Still only 1,300 cases in a country with hundreds of millions. The odds of you coming across it at this point is low. Are you old enough to remember H1N1, SARS, bird flu, Zika? All the same, all passed without anyone I know and anyone they know getting it. This will be the same. It’s going to be ok and if you do happen get sick, you’ll probably recover unless your elderly and immunocompromised, as the majority are with mild to moderate symptoms. And you’ll get two weeks pay.
FanboiRyu0 points3y ago
What's Starbucks supposed to do? Shut down all their stores? They did this in China for a while. But they can't just go and shut down all their stores, first and foremost they're a business, they have to make money.
tictacstar2 points3y ago
No, first and foremost they are humans they should prioritize survival.
gaayrat [OP]5 points3y ago
People have the virus before they have symptoms. It’s too late by that point. We should be preventing people from passing it on
NOTcreative-2 points3y ago
CDC states that 99% of the time it’s passed on is when there are symptoms.
gaayrat [OP]-3 points3y ago
That’s not what I’ve been reading anywhere
NOTcreative-2 points3y ago
Well are you reading CDC info or CNN?
0x52and1x524 points3y ago
The disaster pay that WE FUND! This company is scummy as fuck acting like they’re doing us a favor. For the majority of the time that the CUP fund has existed, its been funded by partners. I can’t believe they actually think they’re doing us good with that shit.
NOTcreative-3 points3y ago
How much money have you personally contributed to the CUP fund? How many times have you rounded up or have you opted to have it taken from your check?
0x52and1x521 points3y ago
I do monthly deductions and round up 50% of the time. My point is the company should be putting their own money into this.
NOTcreative-2 points3y ago
There’s no such thing as monthly deductions it’s by paycheck and they do put their own money into it
cpweird3 points3y ago
where can i find the sick leave message?? thru the ipads at work?
captain-slammi26 points3y ago
I don’t know what you mean. My district manager called me today and told me not to come in tomorrow and we will be paid for our hours regardless until they make sure we’re safe from some partners who have called out sick.
nightkat895 points3y ago
While we are chiseling away :)
Panik96310 points3y ago
If they really cared they’d provide the SMs with extra labor so we always have someone on support...we’re still running 3 plans during afternoon peak...”give me your filthy cash...but NOOOOO I can’t touch your cup...” 🤦🏻♂️
giantechidna2 points3y ago
My district gets 8 extra labor hours a store, so kinda?
Panik9632 points3y ago
Our district hasn’t gotten that...out of curiosity is that a day, or a week?
tictacstar6 points3y ago
I have seen absolutely no decrease in my customer volume here in the city of seattle parents of small children and people over 75 are still coming in, they simply do not get it. We can trust starbucks right? People are literally going to drink the corona virus for a dollar an ounce. I want to pay my rent sure but my coworkers are scared we just cant wash our hands enough starbucks just says wash your hands but our store is still getting crowded. Our manager is treating us like its all in our heads all she says is if we wash our hands we wont get sick. If I get sick I don't know if my lungs can take it. The corporate partners are all "working from home" and thanking me for being here as if I chose to put my life on the line and wear the green apron I dont feel like I'm nurturing the human spirit I feel like I'm nurturing the Corona Virus. My customers are just not worried enough.
gaayrat [OP]5 points3y ago
I talked to my manager today and she said there have been talks about closing stores. I’m happy that those who call out sick will get paid leave. That’s good. I hope the company sees what a risk it is to remain open tho and extends precautions
cyan_reynolds2 points3y ago
I think that if we can get all the partners from even a few stores across the country to not come in to work one day, we can get more to follow, and force their hand.
Feisty-Dealer2 points3y ago
Call PCC. Have friends and family call into customer service. We need to keep calling.
gaayrat [OP]2 points3y ago
I was talking it up w a few of my coworkers today lol

I was told by my manager that if anyone at my store get's coronavirus then the whole store closes for 2 weeks and no one will be paid.
giantechidna5 points3y ago
They already approved catatorphe pay for anyone in contact with a positive test case, your manager is panicked and uniformed at best, an idiot and jerk scaring you at worst
[deleted]3 points3y ago
She told me she thought we'd probably get catastrophe pay, but then after speaking with our district manager we actually wont get it. Idk why I got downvoted haha, I'm not saying anything except what my specific manager told my store.
shorty3271 points3y ago
I was going to downvote you bc that’s trash not bc ur comment is lol I’ll give you an upvote though
[deleted]1 points3y ago
Haha thanks, I was just confused and now I'm even more confused that apparently my manager and dm have no idea what's going on
gaayrat [OP]2 points3y ago
It’s too late by that point!! It will have already been spread to coworkers and customers. Stores should be shut down before it gets to that point
