Is anyone else considering not going into work and just self quarantining themselves to help flatten the curve and stay the fuck home? The thought of going into a public place terrifies me. I’ve been keeping up with epidemiologists and credible sources and my boyfriend and I are self quarantining to make sure we don’t contract and infect other people. I’m a seasoned closing partner and understand the toll a missing partner take on the day but this is also a global pandemic. My family and I are not taking this lightly.

as far as I can tell we’re still expected to come into work unless one of our baristas gets the virus. I think it’s negligent to do this to your employees but i guess that’s why i’m not running the $1B coffee chain

Well I know we’re expected to come in. It’s an ethical dilemma at this point. You can have the virus and not show symptoms. Things are changing every hour and I dint think companies are being proactive enough. The minute they declared a pandemic they should have AT LEAST closed the lobbies.

Starbucks doesn’t care, Starbucks goal is to make money not see their employees happy and healthy. In fact if you die and they have to replace you, it’s actually cheaper for them, they can pay the new hire min. Don’t feel sorry for the business. Tell your coworkers to do the same as you. The game is manipulated. Like this shouldn’t even be a dilemma.

I know they don’t and that’s something I’ve known for aS long as I’ve worked here. I guess I just want reassurance that I’m not the only barista concerned more about me and my families health and not the store for once especially since this is a PANDEMIC.

You’ll find a way to survive, even if they fire you theres a million jobs better than SB. Be safe take care of your family. I’m doing the same as you!
sleepy218barista [OP]3 points3y ago
It’s even more bizarre that we have to assume they’ll fire us over taking safety precautions during a pandemic. Says a lot about the company itself. Coming in to work just so people can get their caffeine while all this is happening. #staythefhome

True. If we were to die, no one would be bothered to even shut the store down to attend a memorial/funeral. Im done putting myself at risk. Im staying home for at least 2 weeks.
Confussledabit4 points3y ago
Yesh you can stay home. After you get corona from a customer. Until then, come to work! Idiots
sleepy218barista [OP]3 points3y ago
How am I to know that I don’t have it but I’m not showing symptoms? Then I get to work and give it to someone? A customer? Maybe a older barista who has an AI disease? How am I doing my part by not spreading it? Idiots.
Confussledabit3 points3y ago
I'm sorry, I was too vague. I meant the company are idiots for making us work. I'm totally on board with calling out, quarantining, etc. I'm just pissed that the company wont pay us and will even fire us if we do that
sleepy218barista [OP]1 points3y ago
Oh ok, I was like , WHAT! How am I the idiot! 🤣 yeah I’m dumbfounded.
Confussledabit1 points3y ago
Yeah, my bad :P
sleepy218barista [OP]2 points3y ago
Why should I compromise my health for a company that clearly doesn’t care about it? Especially working with the general public constantly?
Confussledabit1 points3y ago
I mean, I'm stuck because of the trans care. But I agree that everyone else should be staying home and they should let us!
nightkat891 points3y ago
Seconded also :/

This is now a community effort to go to the extreme no to spread this virus. Starbucks inside should not be open at all. Are we, as a society, that fucked that we can't go without Starbuck's coffee for a few weeks? They do sell that shit at stores so you can make it yourself. I say do what's best for you. I went through the drive-thru at CVS to pick up meds and they didn't even open that window like they always did. It was intercom only and meds in the drawer. Funny enough for some reason no co-pay either. Like they didn't want to touch my credit card or cash.
I was just google mapping some SB stores in high-risk areas don't understand why there are open when all the images I see in those areas show no one in the streets. They are open in ghost towns. I didn't know that this company sucked that bad. This should be made public somehow.

Feel free to screen shot and post on FB. Lol. Feel free to scribble my name out tho 😂

I'm in Everett WA and our store had no one today. It was stupid and they told us to keep the lobby open even though higher ups told us to close.

Call PCC and express your frustration over this. Have friends and family call Starbucks customer service to question why stores are still open. Customers may need to be the voice right now in order for baristas to be heard.
