So this morning was a little hectic, our store manager who was supposed to open evidently is very sick and was unable to come in, and being my phone was on do not disturb, I didnt come in until 7:30 (aka my scheduled time to come in). So we ended up opening the store a few hours later, which to a lot of our customers wasnt a big deal, with us being on a college campus weve been dead anyways.
Then in comes a Karen, and the conversation went as follows:
Karen (K): "what time do you guys usually open?"
Me (M): "typically we open at 5:30, one of partners was unexpectedly ill so we opened a little bit later than usual once we found coverage."
K: "oh thank goodness, I would hate for you guys to close over something so stupid."
M: "Actually i wouldnt necessarily mind it, i have a 3 year old brother, and a grandmother at home who are both asthmatic, the only potential risk they have is me bringing it home to them."
K: "well you guys have proper procedures set in place for this"
M: "I do yes, but some of the customers we get in do not, I cant guarantee their own health and safety habits."
K: "well some people rely on a paycheck."
I didnt say anything after that but it drives me crazy that she thinks my family is less important than a paycheck. I know that the company is offering pto for people going into quarantine but even if they weren't my family means more than if I get paid. She didnt even buy anything!! She literally just came in to fight! Not even 2 minutes after she left we had a man straight up picking his nose and sneezed right on our register counter, like how am I supposed to control what people do when they act like this?? I really wasnt super worried when this first came out but now I'm really starting to get scared.
Rant concluded. Please stay safe out there.
