Are there any store managers out there that chose to demote themselves? I love working for this company but I'm so depressed from the stress. Not sure if it's for me but I feel so conflicted. (self.starbucksbaristas)

Not my personal story but I do know someone who became an SM, was super overwhelmed and felt very untrained/not ready for the position. They stepped down in the first 6 months and came back as a barista at my store. They quit after 2 weeks 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well I'm not sure that's what I would do but I make no promises. I wanted to submit a resignation last week but she talked me into demoing or taking an LOA. I feel it would be easier to walk away from an SM than a DM. I love the company and everything they stand for. The benefits are amazing.

I did, but I also knew I was leaving. I just couldn’t do it anymore.

When I asked my DM about stepping down he told me (off the record. he was a really cool guy) that I’d never be offered SM again once I stepped down. I had sort of figured that based on seeing SMs step down in the past.

You know I remember one of my peers wanting to do that and my DM shared that they probably wouldn't promote again. When I talked to her she said that I could maybe in the future. I'm not sure that is what I want. I'm just going to miss my pay check lol and vacation time.

I know two people who stepped down from SM and they've always seemed happier for it.

I'm hoping that will be the case. I've been in management for 6 years and while I always try to be a strong leader I'm just so tired. I was an external hire and it's been a journey. Thank you for your response.

My advice is try to hold out before giving up, it gets easier. The beginning is really tough but you got where you are for a reason! And if you find out it’s not for you, you can always talk to your dm about demoting. Good luck!!

I appreciate this, I really want to try to stick it out. I've been working 60 to 70 hours a week. I have a lot of support and I've shared with my DM. She did offer I take an LOA and decide after I've had some time to think about what I want and to find help with my depression.
