Calling in sick as an SSV (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by natwer
I’ve been a supervisor for about 2.5 years now (partner for 3.5), and I have never called in for an SSV shift. With this virus going around we have been explicitly told to not come in if we’re sick, but what about SSV’s? I’ve been quite sick the past couple days and know I should not go in to work for my next shift, but I am the closing supervisor. Am I even allowed to call in sick? Will I get in trouble? Please help!!! (I 100% do not think I should go in, I do not want to risk mine or anyone else health, I am just worried about the consequences)

Call out. Not worth putting yourself and others at risk.

I agree. Thank you!

You are 100% allowed to! Obviously give your SM or ASM if you have one enough notice. You know it’s normally 2+ hours before your shift, but the earlier the better. It always helps to text a shift who’s off today to see if they’ll cover it or if you can switch but it’s not your job to find coverage if you’re sick💛

My store only has 3 shifts (including myself!), who definitely will not switch unfortunately! :( but I’m glad to know it’s allowed bc even calling in sick as a barista where I am is often super frowned upon

Let your GM know asap. If you are unable to work for health reasons, it's his/her job to contact the Game in the area to find a shift from another store to cover or come in theirself to do so.

As a ssv you still need to call out if you are feeling any symptoms of anything. Starbucks is not worth it

Not just about you either!! It is a code violation!!! You can be shut down by the Health Department. Has nobody taken the food safety certification test?! What is going on?!
