Stop coming in to “thank us” for working(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by manolabars
Customers shouldn’t be coming in to “thank us” for working under the conditions were working in. The fact that people are saying this to BARISTAS, AT A NONESSENTIAL BUSINESS, is silly enough. A better thank you we all would rather have is you staying home so we all can feel more at ease!!! I picked up a few shifts this week & regret it because seeing the eerie environment were working in is super unsettling & just think we all should be able to be in the comfort of our own homes without worrying about spreading this virus...... with pay of course.

JUST TIP, then. Then MAYBE I'll believe you're thankful. Our hours are being slashed. We're still dealing w the public. You still deem your latte somehow an essential. The absolute least you could do is tip us.

I feel the same exact way. Someone literally said to me in dt today, “I would DIE without my coffee thank you so much for being open”. Like wtf who says that??? The only reason I show up to work is to support myself and my family, not so you can get your quad venti 4 pump iced latte.

I would have been so tempted to be like yeah, and I might die of Coronavirus. Wonder what their response would be and uhhhhhhhh how my manager would take it.

If you would die without coffee it may be time to invest in a coffee machine.
Don't get me wrong, Starbucks is cool and all. But my grandma grew up making (awful) instant coffee from a can. If you just need caffeine there are other ways.

Honestly I don’t know why everyone told me that today. I didn’t really know what to say. I just think ya, I need the money. I’m just grateful I’m not a waitress at the moment. :/ but in all honesty we should be the fuck at home so this thing dies.

If one more person says this to me I may snap and lose my damn job. It's not cute and it's not quirky. You won't die without your latte. Where is the common sense?

I just described working today as "eerie" too! I had 4 days off and this has been my first shift since it's been grab and go and drive thru only. It was pretty slow, and it was weird with the empty cafe and only 3 partners for a while. Very unsettling. But I will say for my customers that many of them tipped very well. A lot of several dollar tips, a couple tens, and even a twenty. I just want things to go back to normal! I'll be happy when this virus is gone.

Fucking sucks for all of us tarbucks employees who can’t accept tips, just “sorrys” from customers who leave their house because coffee is more important than public health. I know we make a lot more, but no one even offers. Of course our regulars know we can’t take tips, but we still have tons of people who probably don’t know and just don’t care.

This whole situation is just surreal and knowing what to do, how to act, and how to feel is all new, so people screw up. I am a former barista , and have been going through drive thru (tipping well). I don’t “need” it, but when it’s open and I am going to work, it is maybe the one “normal” I still have. I think people are clinging to that normalcy and in that, also dealing with their discomfort at the situation. So they say stupid things. Now we all know there are a million Karens too who just say stupid stuff every day. But disregarding them, if you choose to go to work, and Sbux chooses to be open, then try to roll with it. I assume everybody is just trying their best. Should Sbux close? I have no idea. Never lived through a pandemic before. How long could they really keep paying you to not work? For a while maybe, but then prices would go up again, people would be laid off, some stores would close. So I’m just not sure what the answer is. I know when I go through I use my phone to pay, and make sure to not touch the barista’s hand when taking my drink in order to limit their exposure. Maybe they could do something like that? I hope this curve flattens soon and we can all go back to normal.
