rant: my manager said that the reason they aren’t closing stores is because we aren’t “normal retail” and because we are the third place, and they want to maintain that. understandable... but, how are we supposed to be the third place when we don’t have any seating in our lobby, we don’t want people sticking around because of germs, baristas are overworked and stressed because most people testing positive aren’t showing symptoms, people are coughing directly into their hands and then handing us money (happened way to much today), corona virus can stay in air for up to 3 hrs and no amount of hand washing will protect you from the air, people aren’t staying home as recommended and we’ve been way busier than we should be at this time, and we have no support from the company. i have already said all of this to my manager and even my dm this morning, just to be met with shrugs. it will be very hard to maintain the feeling of being the third place when baristas don’t feel supported during these very stressful global events. rant done.

The “third place” is corporate brainwashing bs just like calling us “partners”. It’s to make us feel like we’re part of something big & important when in reality we’re a corporate fast food chain that puts profit before people

The “third place” is apparently supposed to be inclusive to us...we’re supposed to be comfortable at work but instead we’re all scared now

There's a logical inconsistency there. Your first place is home. Your second place is work. Starbucks is meant to be your third place. It can't be your second and third place at the same time.

It's heavily corporate speak to make customers happy, and ever since they started saying third place, things have gotten progressively worse for partners.

We got the third place pep talk yesterday from our very tired and overworked ASM. I appreciate that she’s coming in so much and I feel like this has been dumped in her lap in many ways. She, myself, and very few others are whizzes on bar, so we are just drowning in tickets with the new protocols. And so many people are calling in. One of our shifts has “some sort of virus, but it’s not Coronavirus”. She went to a doctor Monday, they sent her home yesterday and she’s on meds. Like, why did she even have to come in yesterday?! I’m working so much this week to try and cover people that are sick or scared or taking care of their kids. Im also worried we will shut down without pay and I’ll be broke. I’m literally outside the store waiting for my shift so I can work a 12 hour shift today.
