Not sure how to coach fellow shift (pls help) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by setafire24
255 here— we just promoted a barista to shift at our store! She has always been good at her barista role, but ever since becoming a shift she doesn’t follow dress code (LONG acrylic nails, brightly colored shirts, etc.) she also has a major attitude problem, yells at partners, etc.

I have coached her multiple times & I mentioned setting an example for everyone else. & making sure we are caring for our partners

She has literally argued with me, saying she’s not taking off her nails, she doesn’t care, etc.

I’m having a hard time because she telling her friends I “talked shit” about her... lol she’s 18 and I’m in my mid 20’s so It’s hard to relate.

Should I continue trying to coach her? Should I chat with my SM?? Idk

honestly just sounds like she’s immature and getting a promotion probably set her on a power trip. I’d just continue setting the example as a shift, but at the same time seriously consider bringing higher-ups into it if she’s being disrespectful to you AND your partners, especially with defying the dress code. Your SM can’t miss the fact that she has acrylics on, and your SM can also ask other partners how her shifts go so that it’s not just your word against hers, but it’s also everyone else’s. There’s no harm in wanting a comfortable work environment, neither you or your partners should have to dread working with/under a difficult and defiant SSV. You’re not talking sh*t if you’re simply encouraging her to do her job well.

having the same kind of problem with a shift at my store and their attitude. our SM even said she was worried about it when promoting them but then went and did it anyways
