Question about catastrophe pay (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by throwawaysbuxrantss
I’ve heard in some subs that you can qualify for catastrophe pay if you have high risk family members or a condition that gives you a higher risk. Does anyone know if that’s true? I have asthma and my dad at home has diabetes and heart issues that would make him a higher risk. My store just shut down but we aren’t getting paid because other stores in our area are open. The last thing I want to do is keep working and posing a risk to myself and my family, but if I can avoid using my sick hours on this, I would like to.

It’s a second-hand source but in our store chat we’ve had one partner able to receive catastrophe pay because of high risk (she’s over 60) and two others have stated they’re going to get it for other high risk factors.

I myself am considering it, mostly because I’m diabetic but unsure if that counts as a high risk condition.

They’ve mentioned diabetes as one of the conditions that is covered.

Can you get it if you live with two people above the age of 60?
jeremeny 4 points 3y ago
Nope. They denied me twice when I was worried about spreading it to my 80 year old grandma whom I live with

I was essentially told to go fuck myself when I expressed my concerns that my family could die lmao

We have three partners out for being high risk- two have diseases on the list the cdc said made them higher risk of dying from the virus and the other has a compromised immune system and is pregnant. They got notes from their doctors and sent them to PCC and they’re off our schedules for the foreseeable future but they were told two weeks of scheduled shifts would be paid.

Hearing other partners experiences...this is some bullshit. At my store that's shut down we're guaranteed at least a weeks pay without having to do take from sick time/PTO, or even contact PCC at all. I don't know if it was the SM or DM or whoever that did it but it definitely depends on who your higher ups are and if they have any sliver of morality

my store is staying open but I am immunocompromised(I'm 24) so my SM told me I can take 2 weeks but I have to use my sick time first then when my sick time runs out I'll get catastrophe pay.
