Grocery stores are an essential business. They need to stay open and should be paying employees hazard pay. Starbucks is not an essential business. They need to close down and provide pay. Other companies will follow suit. It is only a matter of days before there is a country wide lockdown.

I agree that it is not essential business. Neither is Burger King, but they are taking orders still. I never mentioned grocery stores closing down. I said that if you don't like working at Starbucks during this time, quit and go stock groceries.
saadro9 points3y ago
Burger King should also shut down and pay their employees.

I also want to point out that your post history has you claiming to be an ER nurse yesterday and that you weren’t a barista on this sub.
gaayrat5 points3y ago
And I oop
imonmywaydown-4 points3y ago
I never claimed to be an ER nurse. I talked to an ER nurse (family). I said that the info was FROM AN ER NURSE. Nice try. BTW, you have way too much time on your hands if you are looking into what all the other people are posting.

I’m self quarantined after possible exposure to COVID-19! Of course I have a lot of time on my hands!
imonmywaydown-1 points3y ago
Your other post said that your were "potentially exposed". What does potentially exposed mean?
saadro3 points3y ago
That I was in extended contact with someone who has all the symptoms after international travel but was unable to get tested because there is a shortage of tests. Their doctor said it was likely they had it and to self quarantine.

Restaurants, unless you’re a big chain, have a very small profit margin. Many of them are still doing take out/delivery in an effort to not go out of business/pay employees. Starbucks doesn’t have that necessity. They can afford to shut down and pay us and are choosing not to.
saadro3 points3y ago
Also if large chains that can afford to pay their employees shut down, if might give some smaller business that can’t a fighting chance if it can help boost their business.
gaayrat2 points3y ago
This is a good point
imonmywaydown-2 points3y ago
Do you feel the same about Burger King, McDonalds, Popeye's, etc.? The reason I ask is because the only people I see with a Reddit page complaining is Starbucks.
gaayrat7 points3y ago
Yes i do! Any nonessential business that can afford to close & pay their employees should be doing that. If those employees aren’t upset that’s their right but I personally think it’s extremely irresponsible of these major companies
gaayrat5 points3y ago
I’ve personally stopped eating at any chain bc 1) I’m trying to limit exposure & 2) I don’t want to support major chains choosing to stay open
saadro3 points3y ago
Because this is a Starbucks subreddit. All fast food establishments should shut down and pay their employees. Starbucks claims to be an industry leader, they should lead the others.

I agree with you. I will continue to work, without complaint, wash my hands as much as I can and try not to panic. We are not unique in this situation.
I will say this: the fact that the leadership refuses to close, despite the circumstances and the fact that so many other places are beginning to close, along with the public statement that we are “essential” is total bullshit and speaks a lot about the culture of the company.

I’m also relieved to still have a paycheck right now. I’m sure we’ll close soon, and I’m insanely stressed about what comes next. Even if we get 14 days catastrophic pay if we close (and the reports on here in conflicting about whether or not people are getting that), that’s still only two weeks pay. What happens next?
imonmywaydown3 points3y ago
Hopefully unemployment will pay to help a little. You can apply online.

It’s better than nothing for sure, but it’s not like we make so much to start with so it just wouldn’t be enough to cover my bills.
