Don’t feel safe to go to work? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cishell2
Just got off the phone with partner contact center. If you haven’t already, call them. You no longer require a doctors note to qualify for disaster pay. If you feel unsafe going to work, call partner contact center to confirm, call you store manager and let them know that you’d like to utilize your catastrophe pay for your next two scheduled weeks. I’ll be home for a couple weeks, to those of you still at work.. utilize the tools that starbucks is providing you. You can go symptomless for up to 14 days and still be transmitting the virus to others. Take a two week break, stay up to date on local news and in the loop with your store. If your manager tries to tell you no, don’t take it for an answer. Call partner resource center and put your well being above a Fortune 500 company’s. Your life may not be at risk from the virus, but your parents, grandparents , etc quite well may be. Stay safe, partner.

I just off the phone with them and they told me I needed to talk directly to my store manager or district manager and there was nothing they could do 😔

Re-call then and speak to another agent. Seems like there’s miscommunication in HQ. mine literally said there is no need for a doctors note. Also, re-read the newsletter that was sent out March 15. You can find it on their website or most likely in your email. Unless you’re a target store , it sounds like complete BS.
Quote the newsletter to the agent, if they continue to disagree , hang up and speak to another one. I got my leave approved within 10 minutes.
Calling them is more or less covering your a** before speaking to your store manager, who could try to negate your concerns.

Will you still be eligible to get catastrophe pay even on LOA?

Yeah they are not all up to date on things which is no surprise from this company. Starbucks is awful with getting information communicated to everyone.

It sounds like not everyone in PCC is on the same page here. Another post stated this was the initial response they got as well and another call got things through later

hoping this is true. hoping whatever possessed them to deny this in the first place is gone and they’re willing to get their partners off the streets and inside their homes.

would be much better if they closed nationwide to prevent the spread of the virus but you know, baby steps i guess.

I imagine if this is true there will be A LOT of partners calling out, and then they’ll have to close

Everything happened so fast. They are swamped. They realize some things went poorly, and seem to fixing the miscommunication that has been the source of so much anger, sadness, and anxiety. I urge patience, reaching out through the chain SM, DM, RM... PCC is super swamped. This is a lot of new material they are handling and they are human. Mistakes were made, bad info went out, and to a lesser extent some people still get wrong answers about this stuff. Hopefully concerns will be addressed swiftly and appropriately. I had productive talk with superiors who definitely addressed my concerns. Good luck, be safe, wishes for better days soon.

agreed. clearly very big decisions hit them all at once and i can appreciate the human aspect of how badly this has gone. honestly if they had openly communicated and said “we are working on a way to structure financial assistance for our partners during this difficult time” i think a lot of us would have felt less like we were thrown into the fire.

i feel like (i wanna assume) they did it the way they did to prioritize partners who were at-risk before rolling out PTO to everyone else. but honestly, staying open during nationwide shut downs atm still looks really bad, and i know its not just starbucks but a lot of companies.

and even then, from what i understand, the extension of catastrophe pay to all partners still hasn’t been clearly communicated, i found out from here and from someone who had to contact our regional manager.

I’m glad that this has changed! I imagine a lot of people will be calling out

You shouldn't have to call them, they should pay and shut down, like the rich adults that they are.

“We are temporarily expanding catastrophe pay for COVID-19 partner care. Any partner who has been diagnosed with or exposed to COVID-19, or comes in close prolonged contact with someone in their store or household who has, is eligible for up to 14 days of catastrophe pay – whether or not they are showing symptoms – so they can self-isolate at home. You can use this catastrophe pay, and then use additional benefits like sick pay, vacation pay or personal time off as available. At the end of 14 days, if partners are still unable to return to work, additional pay replacement may be made up to 26 weeks.
If you have not had any known contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19, but are showing symptoms, you should stay home until you are symptom-free for 24 hours. You can use our temporary, expanded catastrophe pay for any scheduled shifts over a three-day period, and then similarly use our additional benefits like sick pay, vacation pay or personal time off.
In addition, we know the CDC and some local health authorities have advised that certain individuals may consider taking extra precautions, for example, people who are 60 years and older, people with underlying health conditions including heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes, people with weakened immune systems, and those who are pregnant.”
