What is the worst thing a customer has said to you or a coworker in regards to Covid-19?(self.starbucksbaristas)

I've had someone say "oh thank god you're open and that you're all working. my office just went telework so if you all weren't open i don't know how i'd get my coffee."
Someone else excitedly told us, "I'm getting coffee for my husband, he's quarantined."

A pharmacist walked in, picked up her mobile order and said, “Thank you. Be safe. But you’re all going to get infected anyway.” I know she’s probably right, but it sent my anxiety through the roof.

I'm sorry you had to find this out that way. She is correct, everyone will be exposed eventually. I do feel like we're moving in the right direction to mitigate the damage but I'm sure that's little consolation to you when you're under so much stress already. I hope management does the right thing soon for everyone. Good luck to you!

More closures rolling out... not fast enough, I know, good luck be well, see you on the other side of the plague!
dancing_durian31 points3y ago
saying ‘you guys are not closed?’ while inside the store, ordering and looking at my dead eyes!
lilBalzac5 points3y ago
Yeah, that one really triggered one of my partners today!
asocial_hermit [OP]4 points3y ago
all of my coworkers just have the most dead eyes and awkward fake laughs for that question cause we can't answer "well you are inside the store ordering so no fucking shit sherlock"
SadType817 points3y ago
Had someone come in to grab their mobile order, look at all the chairs in a corner, then proceed to angrily ask if we were closing. Told her the whole spiel about currently being grab and go for now and how it’s to “protect partners and customers”. She did not like that one bit and called us paranoid idiots as she walked out 😅

WTF?!! I’m sorry that happened! Nobody should have to go through that!

Weee... These customers are the Boss Fights in the Thunderdome of customer service. If you didn't leap over the counter to throttle her, you advance a level!
All kidding aside, I hope your SSV told them not to return.

Had a woman scream at me in DT that her wait time was " Bull Shit!" because she waited minutes for her coffee as I had only 3 people on staff to run a cafe and DT while keeping up with MOP.
She got her coffee for free because I refused her money and her attitude.
Alao had a lady order a blonde roast pour over in DT at open with only us 2 openers working, and then impatiently roll her eyes when she got to window and "it's not ready yet?".

Nah. Bitch you're getting Pike.

Three days ago, (just before we removed our seating area) I was taking my lunch in a corner, and saw an older couple that had ordered tea and had been sitting down for at least an hour. Both were wearing masks, huge gloves , but the man had his mask down below his chin, (lol, what’s the point?!) coughing very frequently while drinking. Whatever, there’s been a lot of sick people, didn’t think much of it. Another 30 min goes by and my young coworker comes over and asks what’s the strongest cleaner she could use, because the man had pulled her aside and said quietly QUOTE “you’re going to want to really disinfect that table.” and they left. There’s TONS of people supposed to be in quarantine in our state, several confirmed cases...and not enough testing... we agreed that was super ominous. I think of that man every time someone pouts about the seating being gone.
lilBalzac10 points3y ago
A few have admitted they were on their way to be tested by the state at the hospital a couple hundred yards away. Another was supposed to go home for quarantine, but "just needed a macchiato after the flight from Spain." Then there is the gentleman who screams that we are taking the seats away "to embarrass Trump with the phony Democrat virus hoax." Not everyone deals well with change...

They didn’t say it to me. They said it to whoever they were on the phone with “who cares if the help gets sick?!” After openly sneezing with no attempt to cover her fucking nose and mouth.
dancing_durian5 points3y ago
That’s horrible!!!! I had a man sneezed into his money before giving it to me!!! What’s wrong with people??!!!
wanderer15221 points3y ago
Fuck no. I'd be refusing that cash. I already put up a sign asking people to avoid using cash if possible to try to save my hands a little 😭
cskrzyz8 points3y ago
As I was ringing up an order for a guy, he starts to look at me and then look at the chairs piled up, and I informed him about the new policies, on top of cleaning everything every 30 minutes. He then asks, what do you do when someone coughs or sneezes in the cafe? And shakes his head and walks away. I don’t get why you are here, sir, or why you’re so mad about the little protection this company is offering me and the public???

Today we had a lady roll up in drive and order and then ask us is there a way I can give you money without touching you im in quarantine... My coworkers and I all looked at each other because wtf??? It shot my stress levels through the roof..
bedusseyy8 points3y ago
like a half hour ago had an older couple come in and the woman goes “i work in a hospital it’s been crazy don’t worry i’m not sick” and proceeds to hand me cash to reload her card. i washed my hands so quickly after that. she also continued on while waiting for her drink that socialism will be the end of us and it’s what killed all the jews and caused the holocaust, we were speechless to say the least
pantyescobar2 points3y ago
what the actual fuck. smh i’m sorry this is bringing out the absolute worst in people
wontonbitch7 points3y ago
I had an old lady threaten to report me because I wouldn't take her personal mug. 🤣 I gave her my name, and told her to go ahead and call corporate.
lebrellj6 points3y ago
Nothing said. Just handed them their three drink order and they sanitized every cup as they handed it to their kids. Because there is obviously not chance THEY could give it to ME.

My coworker tonight had a guy cough pretty much right on him and I think he said “don’t worry I don’t have coronavirus” or something. Fortunately the dude had a super wet cough, compared to the very dry cough covid-19 generally causes. I was disgusted either way
Caffeine_Slinger6 points3y ago
On the first day of the "We're no longer going to handle personal cups" or use for-here- ware stage, one customer hollered at me, in front of a long line at the POS, "Oh, so now Starbucks is falling for this bullshit?!"
It took all my strength not to tell that man to put a sock in it. Starbucks has stores all over the world, ffs. This appears to be a global, rolling catastrophe; but I'm not cruel enough to expect fools to wrap their minds around something like that. Now, keep your cooties to your damn self and move along.
Nearly two hours later, he got up as I was wiping tables in the lobby and I absentmindedly said, "Thank you; goodbye" as he headed for door. No shade. We're busy. I'd all but forgotten his weird outburst. But he hadn't. He gave me off a gfy wave of the hand. Bananas.
Guilty_Owlz3 points3y ago
"You better stay open."
Some vaguely joking, others way more threat-sounding.
lilBalzac3 points3y ago
Guy was digging in his nose with the hand that held his money clip (this was a "distinguished gentleman," mind you).
gliese5702 points3y ago
thanking me for being open. it makes me want to scream.
briiwinters2 points3y ago
My partner was on dto & she was wearing gloves like the rest of us. The customer was laughing at her and as they drove away they told her that they hope she gets corona. ._.
