They still don’t care. (self.starbucksbaristas)

I’m sure we all received the mass text/email last night. Anyone else’s SM trying to say that it’s only for if you absolutely need it? I can’t stand the idea of dealing with people’s dirty money during this crisis. Just close the damn stores, now I’m put into a hard place because I don’t want to let my store down and my manager genuinely thinks Starbucks is the SAFEST place to be. Idk, to me, it feels like a bandaid move to stop the news stories coming out. I say all of that to finish with this CLOSE THE DAMN STORES STARBUCKS. We deserve catastrophe pay just for being forced to work in this craziness, and now If I use it I’m “abusing” it? Are you serious? There’s a global pandemic going on and in order to get a day off of work, I have to “abuse” a system that’s supposed to help. Starbucks, you used to be such a beautiful company. Now you are a stock brokers wet dream and a young adults worse nightmare. Fuck you Starbucks. I just wanna know, anyone else feelings this way???

-East coast partner

TLDR; Starbucks is trying to blow us under the rug with the mass text/email and still won’t close their stores.

EDIT: Now I’m seeing some baristas saying it was an accident?? It’s possible, but a $30 BILLION company making a mistake as big as telling everyone they can go home??? I don’t see it happening. This was intentional to stop the fire from spreading, and it didn’t work.

SM here.
You guys just seem like you have shitty SMs.
I called each of my partners yesterday and created a spreadsheet to see if they want to work or take the 30.
1 partner said they want to work everyone else is taking the 30.
If as a store manager you are going to hold this pandemic over someone's head, you're just a shitty leader.

Sorry that you are all dealing with this in the worst possible way.
Stay home, stay safe. Get paid.

Is it by choice of sm or dm? By the sound of it our dm thinks it’s a short hand response to the outcry of baristas being forced to still go to work. So they think we should still be trying to come in. Also, to call your employees like that, good on you mate. Wish everyone had it an Sm as good as you friend!!!
agentdouble1s 12 points 3y ago
Sounds like you're being bullied. Do not go in if you are uncomfortable. They cannot force you and seriously if they cut your hours when this is over - it's time for a new job.

I feel so horrible for all of you partners with shitty SMs. ♥️

My DM basically told us that we need to compile a list of who wants to work who is going to take the 30 days. She's trying to keep 2-3 stores open in the district, for the partners that want to work etc.

When that text went out, she was not aware of it, neither was our regional.
We were a bit blindsided by it. But we are just trying to do right by our partners.

It’s partners like you that make Starbucks an amazing place. Thank you for actually taking care of your team. I have a stand-in SM taking the same measures, and I couldn’t be more grateful for her guidance in these tough times. We appreciate managers like you! :)

My SM said it’s only for stores in areas that were already receiving catastrophe pay (I’m in west Texas...we have 5 cases as of last night, we aren’t really in a high risk area) so she said I wouldn’t qualify. But I work right next to a grocery store and I really do not feel comfortable showing up. I just don’t know what to do because my SM is positive that this 30 day thing doesn’t count for us and she won’t give me any information.

Is this true?? Or can I still call out and be fine?? I just don’t want to go to work under these conditions but it feels like I don’t have a choice
RegularFrappuccino 6 points 3y ago
No this is a company wide benefit available to everyone
gaayrat 19 points 3y ago
The email was clear. If you feel unsafe not coming in you get 30 days pay. Your SM can’t say no
anonymous491300000 [OP] 15 points 3y ago
This is true, but I feel (and I’m sure others feel the same) if I do say yes and take the cat pay, then when I do come back, my hours will be severely cut for something that’s out of my control.
PhillyBaristaJustice 6 points 3y ago
Call PCC and tell them what's going on with your SM. I don't know if they'll actually be able to help you but it's worth a shot. Consider contacting your local media as well (anonymously).
AvecDesReves 17 points 3y ago
My SM straight up told me if we use it when we come back our hours will be cut.
serenagirl1993 14 points 3y ago
I don't get what it is these SM are expecting. Why are they so concerned with us risking our health over coffee??
gaayrat 12 points 3y ago
Pretty sure they can get into trouble for that
lilBalzac 12 points 3y ago
Fired for it and also legal trouble for them personally. The company policy is clear. Managers violating policy should be reported up the chain. The company (despite what some people say) does not want managers doing this crap. Be well y'all.
ImSuperSalty 9 points 3y ago
Your SM needs to be fired. That crap shouldnt cut it in Starbucks. Had a SM like that. I left the store and shortly after they were removed.
echowolf9 2 points 3y ago
If not sued...
PEMoran86 9 points 3y ago
I would start texting them so you have a record. That's bull shit.
astivana 6 points 3y ago
Get them to confirm it too - like ask for clarification that you understood correctly when they said [insert threat here]
star_pants 8 points 3y ago
It was an accident? Fuck no. I have never received a text from starbucks and I got an email, a text, AND the hub was updated. That was no accident. They're just trying to make themselves look good before people don't show up on Monday
anonymous491300000 [OP] 4 points 3y ago
My thoughts exactly, seemed like a move to cover their ass before this thing really takes off like the news stories coming together.
star_pants 2 points 3y ago
Especially since the petition has been taken down
anonymous491300000 [OP] 2 points 3y ago
Was it really? For what reason? It surpassed the signatures I thought.
star_pants 2 points 3y ago
I've been watching it for a few days, each time it surpassed the "total" signatures the "total" would just go up by 5k. So like if it said 12k of 15k once it hit 15k it would say 15k of 20k.

I don't think it was supposed to have a total, just as many as possible.

Our store manager said he was going to have a conference call today about the message and then let everyone know what is going on. He didn't give us anymore information than that.

Have a few people already saying they were going to not come in in addition to the handful that haven't been in for a couple of weeks now.

Edit: His conference call is at 2 cst, so maybe other store managers will have it around the same time. He's going to keep our store posted about it, I hope all of ya'lls stores do the same!
ImSuperSalty 4 points 3y ago
My SM is having a convo with every partner. He doesnt exactly know whats going to happen, but he personally wants the store shut down. Hes not comfortable with us working.
AvecDesReves 3 points 3y ago
I work in boston and we closed on Thursday. I texted her again today and she said she didn’t know anything about the email and she’d get back to me. This is being handled so badly. And I already have her on record about the hours.
delidoll 2 points 3y ago
I’m SO sorry this is happening to all of you. I seem to have one of the only decent store managers in the world. He texted in our group chat and said he loved us all and to just text him with our answers and it’s a no judgement situation. I truly feel sorry for people with store managers who don’t care about them as human beings. Report to HR is what I would do. It’s unacceptable and completely unrealistic to expect people to put their lives on the line to serve coffee. Be safe everyone!
Anthonythebarista 2 points 3y ago
No my shifts are telling us to take it! Smh I am so disappointed in this company
echowolf9 1 points 3y ago
It’s not an accident. All partners qualify for 30 days of catastrophe pay and all cafe stores are closing except ones near hospitals. If you are a drive thru only the drive thru will stay open.

Your manager can not deny you the catastrophe pay. Contact your dm or PCC
