It sounds like there are a lot of shitty SM's, but I personally think my SM has handled this the best she could. Not only did she keep the store open while emphasizing that we didn't have to work (she made it clear if we didn't feel comfortable working, we didnt have to and could get the catastrophe pay), but she was even bringing in any food she could spare like ramen, mac n cheese, granola bars, etc. for any partners that needed help with food. She also sent out a message immediately after receiving the 30 day message from corporate saying we will be closing the store that night for 30 days and would all be getting paid accordingly. I don't know how it worked with the coordination between her and the DM (as I'm sure it wasn't the preferable decision in my DM's eyes), but I know she did it because she cares about my store's partners. I'm not saying all SM's are like this, in fact the majority probably aren't. However, I just want to point out that there are good SM's that truly care and voice my appreciation for her.

As for corporate, I'm personally very grateful that I'll be making money for the next month (without working). It's not something I think anyone is actually entitled to (unless you're salary) and I think the fact that we even had catastrophe pay was nice. Working was entirely optional, regardless of what any SM was saying, but I personally kept working to earn as much money before I couldn't work anymore. We shouldn't be complaining about corporate "not caring", we should be grateful we didnt get laid off and are getting anything at all. I recognize that I work in an entry-level position and an entry-level position isn't designed to pay a lot or naturally come with many benefits in the beginning. I don't expect to make a living wage off of an entry-level, simple barista position, and if it didnt accommodate my life, I'd find a job that did. That's why I'm grateful that we are getting this 30 day pay. Please don't hate, but I honestly think we get treated fairly well, and if I didn't, I wouldn't be a barista for over 3 years now.

Not unpopular. Communication of changed was imperfect, and initial implementation was haphazard dependent on local manager quality, but that was practically unavoidable. Everyone is doing their best. The company is exceeding any financial obligations to us. The company is now exceeding anything any level of government has done by curtailing as many operations as we have. I was an early skeptic and vocal critic, but this company is standing up and delivering as far as I am concerned. Be well, stay safe, we will make perfect drinks and perfect moments on the other side of this abyss.

PS: my SM and my DM and RM have all been great too.

I appreciate you voicing your opinion. I also think that this company has been helping us more than some. I am still working as well because I get bored at home fairly quickly. I have never believed that any company really cared for their employees as much as the employees wanted to be care for. This "30 day pay day" just proves that Starbucks does care at least a little about our well being, even though they also would like to make money. Not every business could afford to pay their employees for 30 days without work, but I'm glad that this company is taking the dive for us.

I agree with you as well. My SM encouraged us to take the pay and focus on our safety first unless we really want to work (even then encourage us to put our health and safety first). my store just closed today because everyone took the 30 days. There's a lot of places laying off workers with no pay and a lot of places that don't give medical benefits, let alone RRSP and stocks, etc. We are very fortunate in this job. Stay safe everyone
