So we all know about the catastrophe pay which is great, but what's not so great is the politics that are following.
I just found out that a manager is saying to her employees that the whole thing is to see whose lazy and will just take the pay. She's shaming ppl into staying and I'm sure ppl are feeling they'll be ostracized if they do take it, even if they don't feel safe. Even if they feel they're immunocompromised. Even if they're worried for a parent or family member if they continue to work.
It is inherently our right to take what the company has rightfully offered us and NO ONE should feel bad about making their health a priority. These managers and other partners need to stop spreading misleading information about being "safer at work" and that the chances of getting it are low. That is untrue and giving people a false sense of security. To every partner: Read what is happening from accredited sources, stay up to date and be smart and realistic. You need to take your own health and well being into your own hands and don't let anyone shame you or tell you that you're wrong for doing so. No one is looking out for you like YOU. If you choose to stay, do NOT Shame others for opting against it. Be better for God sakes.
This whole thing has opened my eyes to how truely untouchable people think they are. This virus is a new virus and the best people are researching it thank God, but there's a lot more to learn. That is the reality of it. So if you're going to spread information, get your facts straight and make sure you understand and others understand that we are in the MIDST of trying to understand everything we can about how it works.

Thank you! I told my manager today that I may be interested in staying home because both my parents are high risk, as am I, and I’d like to know more about what would happen when she gets more information. She told me that I shouldn’t be making rash decisions and that Starbucks isn’t as unsafe as everyone’s making it out to be 🙄

This is absolutely Insanity! Is your Starbucks manager now a research scientist investigating COVID-19?? Lol like under what notion are they thinking they can completely ensure your safety, especially if you're in a higher risk group?? Plus, who wants the responsibility of shaming someone who feels unsafe to stay at work and then God forbid they get sick?! I'm so upset. Do what you need to do to keep yourself and your family safe!

It’s funny because out of the two of us, I’m the one with a degree in public health. She’s been asking for my thoughts about the whole pandemic, but keeps telling me I’m wrong whenever I tell her what I think. She also told me that those who stay may get double pay and who would give that up? I mean yeah getting paid double would be nice but not at the risk of my family’s health.

Gosh that's so irritating. Especially in your situation where you know what you're talking about and she still chooses to argue! Ego is a bitch sometimes and I feel like we've been seeing a lot of it lately unfortunately.

i feel bad my sm was extremely generous and told everyone to please feel welcome to take the 30 days. lucky for my area we have 4 stores with 10 miles so if stores do close down we are able to transfer partners

Managers really be trying to act like your safety doesn’t matter. It’s obviously serious if other places are closing and they are telling people to stay inside. These companies only care about money.

Just called PCC and she said that cat pay has just been extended to April 20th no matter when you opt in. So if you want to keep working for another week before opting in for cat pay, you can, and it will still last til April 20th. At that point if you want to continue to self isolate, you can start to use your vacation and sick hours.

They think they are doing their job, but they are incorrect. The policy is what it is, and that is how corporate wants it applied. There is no "secret menu" and no "secret policy" at Starbucks.

Exactly!!

All the stores in my district shut down because with everyone being guaranteed income for 30 days, there is no incentive for people to work. We were going to keep one store open with partners who still wanted to work but rumor is that it may close down now too.
