Please stop shaming baristas who chose to stay at work (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Tidal_wavves
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen comments or posts yelling at people to stay home and take the pay. You don’t know that persons situation or reasoning for staying and you can be as opinionated as you want on the subject but some of us are very torn in the decision on whether or not to take the 30 days off. Until every barista in my store chooses to leave, I’m staying to support them. As a supervisor I feel more responsible for making sure everyone is supported during this time. We currently have two store teams working out of my DT only store and very few people at my store have opted into the cat pay. So stop telling people what to do based on the decision you made.

Stop shaming anyone for their choice. Honestly, this is tough enough without turning on each other. Be well, stay safe at work or at home! Thanks all of you for being you.

I feel so judged for staying as well. The guy I’m seeing is making me feel awful for choosing to stay at work. I’m the only person in my household with a job during this time. Every bill is now my responsibility. I don’t care about “you can just not pay your rent for 3 months and you can’t be evicted” I can’t live day by day feeling like I’m about to be kicked out of my home or feel like I’m slipping further into debt. And on top of it my mental health would plummet if I was home for 30 days. I don’t even do well when I get 3 days off at once. I’m genuinely scared for if/when we do close how I’m going to survive all of this.

I don’t even have enough money in my bank account to “stock up” on food for being at home. I don’t have family to rely on. I don’t even have a car to drive to another town to find cheaper resources.

Every time I come on reddit I feel like a terrible person for choosing to stay at work. But we are being safe. We are taking every precaution. I can’t say nothing bad will happen but we are doing everything we can. I just can’t help but get a sinking feeling anytime I see a “STAY AT HOME YOU IDIOTS” post. Alright. I’ll stay at home and starve and sink into debt and depression.

Yeah don’t feel bad for choosing to stay at work! I don’t blame you at all
shezascorpio 13 points 3y ago
!!! I chose to stay at my store because it helps keeps my mental health afloat, but they ended up closing anyway because so many of my coworkers chose the PTO. I don’t blame them and I will definitely survive this next month, but it will be a long one.

Yeah I don’t blame anyone that accepts the time off! But I definitely worry about myself and a couple other partners if we have to stay home alone for a month :/

Edit: Not sure why this is getting downvoted lol

I took the 30 days but I have an autoimmune disease or I would have stayed. I just feel better know I can limit my contact with people because I do get sick often and usually when I do I end up in the hospital. But I miss working already!
Tidal_wavves [OP] 6 points 3y ago
Oh yeah definitely take the time off if you are high risk! Or even if you’re not. I have a coworker who took it just cause it’s available and I totally understand that

Thank you! I decided to stay because I adore my manager and I don't want her to be super stressed with this whole thing. My store probably will shut down due to our low volume so I'm just waiting for that to happen. My boyfriend (who works at another store in my district) decided to stay home and his whole family is judging me and I don't feel like I need to justify to them why I'm staying. I understand that it's easier to stay home but honestly work is the only thing keeping me calm and sane through all of this!

I’m doing it for my store team not corporate. So I totally understand where you’re coming from!
fluffycakes222 5 points 3y ago
I'm definitely staying for my team! Corporate should've just have shut down stores instead of making us choose!
Tidal_wavves [OP] 2 points 3y ago
I one hundred percent agree with this! It’s not a real choice for some people

I'm choosing to work as much as I can. Because yes the 30 days is great and all, but what if this goes on for more than the 30 days pay? Which it will. I'm trying to save the 30 days as long as I can. Because there's so much uncertainty rn. So that's why I continue to work, but I also understand everybody has different reasons and that's okay too.

You should do the 30 days now because they are only offering until April 20th.
drynofoamcappuccino 1 points 3y ago
You may want to call PCC, from everything I've heard the 30 days is from 3/21-4/19. Meaning you either take it or leave it, it doesn't carry over after that. (According to the latest updates at least)
c_reckless35 1 points 3y ago
Oh okay. Well I dont really want to sit at home unless I got too. I would prefer to work. I would get to stir crazy sitting at home for 30 days, it would be nice getting paid. But I just transferred to another store because my store is closing tomorrow.

30 days fully paid. Or work for aren’t anything extra and aid In the spread of the virus.

Yeah. You should not be working
gaayrat -2 points 3y ago
I won’t shame anyone and I certainly understand some reasonings for choosing to work but at the same time, we are literally in the middle of a pandemic. Choosing to not come to work and cutting down your contact with people is the safest option for everyone and it can help stop the spread. Please remember that
