corporate is evil, slight rant(self.starbucksbaristas)

i want to preface by saying that i am absolutely going about this in a position of privilege. there are many people right now that are getting laid off, fired, or being unpaid due to the pandemic right now. i don’t take that lightly. my partners and managers are all working tirelessly with what we have trying to make sure everyone is supported. again i am lucky to be able to have such an understanding team, i know some people might not be in the same situation as i am. that being said, i’ve always had my fair share of qualms with starbucks corporate. nothing ever prompted me to leave, all in all i still like my job, and my perspective was sort of restricted since i’ve only worked at one store since i’ve been hired. but now, i just think this company is evil. for all of the marketing that the company puts into portraying itself as “socially responsible” or even “ethical” (on the fence about that one) what is happening now, has shown me that corporate is the antithesis of both of those. i know, shocking right?! a multi million dollar corporation wants to make more money????!! it’s just baffling to see it sort of firsthand for me, or maybe i’ve chosen to ignore it until now when my personal health might be at risk, a little selfish i get it. but the company can afford to close stores and pay their employees given this $3 raise situation and 30 day leave pay. stop putting partners at risk. stop putting the customers that you claim to care so much about at risk. the only way for us to effectively support healthcare providers and necessary workers like grocery store workers, and many more that allow us to stay comfortable during this time is to ensure we do not further spread this virus and stay home. to all of the partners working during this trash time, it doesn’t mean much but i appreciate you!
EDIT: i just wanted to say that the stores and partners that have a majority of healthcare workers and providers as their customers are superheroes. and i mean no ill intent to them when i point out “the only way to support health care providers.” i applaud those of you who are providing a sense of normalcy to doctors, nurses, practitioners, and all those alike that are keeping us alive!

Yeah $3 more an hour is not worth anyone's health. The shit that most partners have to put up with from customers and management is ridiculous at the best of times, let alone during a pandemic.
If you’re concerned for your health stay home. There are a lot of partners that have faith in the measures we are taking to prevent the spread, as advised directly by the CDC, that are home, lonely, and want to work. This $3 and hour is a thank you to those partners who want to work. In fact Starbucks is much more safe to work at than probably anywhere else that is currently open. As long as policies and procedures are being followed there’s very little risk of Starbucks being responsible for the spread. People are standing in line and gather in large groups, packing grocery stores and touching all the items on the shelves possibly spreading it.
Those people who have to work need us right now more than ever. Plenty of us are happy to continue showing up, and we completely understand any partner that opts to take the catastrophe pay.

I don’t think it’s just the customers that could be the problem though. You don’t know where your coworkers go and who they’re around once they leave that store. And now that the drive thru is only open, you have 5 to 6 partners all on top of each other in a small space. I think that’s a risk too, not just the customers posing a risk.

Of all the people I trust to follow proper procedures of caution to prevent the spread, it’s Starbucks partners.

And the only way to actually prevent majority of the spread is to stay home. I’m not saying that your coworkers would try to get people or you sick on purpose but they don’t know about what you could be around either. This is so much bigger than a job that could replace you in a minute.
