Take the catastrophe pay or take the extra $3? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by maddyevans
My Starbucks has been building a Starbucks Drive-Through across the street for the last six months. Our move is scheduled to take place April 9th. My manger called and said we are closed for two weeks and after that we can take the catastrophe pay or work (as much as wanted) and get payed and extra $3 an hour. I really could use the money however, I live with my parents (dad was a smoker for 20 years and also has a heart condition so he’s more at risk to die if he gets infected). I would like anyone’s advice on what I should do.

Hey, check out my $1, I try to give as much insight as possible in regards to your question. (Short answer is it's not worth the risk to you or your family)

You're getting your normal pay if you work or if you don't work. If you work, you get $3/hour.

Is your time worth $3/hour?

However, if you can pick up more hours than you were scheduled for, then you start getting (normal pay + $3)

I was under the impression that it was normal + $3 for all hours worked. Not just hours that you pick up. That is what my SM told us and that is how I interpreted Rossann’s statement... I apologize if I am wrong however I would like to see where it says that it is only for extra hours. Or am I misunderstanding everything completely lol.

Again. They are paying your normal pay for scheduled hours that you choose to not work. If you choose instead to work, you get normal pay plus three dollars.

So you are getting $3/hour for working.

Yes thank you, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t misunderstanding!
