CONFLICTED (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by DualWeaponSnacker
Am I wrong for waiting until the end of the week to decide what to do? There are a million things I could say about being conflicted on this. My college friend died this weekend and it’s looking like it was the big C (he was being treated for cancer and lived in NYC-super high risk). Am I letting him down by not taking the 30 days? WTF am I even debating with myself? Work keeps me sane, but these garbage people lately are killing my soul. I think I can feel the light leaving my eyes, but I wouldn’t mind the temp raise and overtime I’m getting. I’m also so incredibly lonely that the only speaking I do is at work. I’m starting to become extremely depressed and now I feel like a bad person on top of it for working. I don’t know what I’m even asking of this thread. I just feel like I’m screaming into the void. Everything seems so hopeless these days.

Breathe.

It’s ok to take some time to think about it.

Also, Please consider reaching out to EAP. It’s a free benefit and they may be able to help you during this really stressful time.

Hey dude. I'm in kind of the same boat here.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, that's terrible and i understand that there is nothing that I, a stranger on the internet, can say to make that better.

I will say though, that personally, I have decided to work until i cant anymore. I'm prepared to take the catastophy pay, and I'm also prepared to keep going to work for that extra 3$ an hour in the Hope's that me and mine can come out of this in a better position than we were going in.

There is no right answer here. There is absolutely no shame in working or staying home. Anyone who tries to convince you otherwise is full of shit.

Take the time, figure out what you're more concerned about. If it's the virus, stay home, that's fine. If it's the money, keep working, get a bit of extra hours in, that's fine too. Dont make a rash decision right now. Think on it. That's okay.

You arent letting your friend down by doing whatever it is you need to do right now. Whatever you decide, I sincerely hope it's the right decision for you.

Its wild wild west times, baby. You do you and fucking florish.
