They don’t feel guilty putting you on the front lines of a global pandemic. You shouldn’t feel guilty for prioritizing your own health.

I know I shouldn’t but I can’t help it. I just feel guilty. I feel like it’ll be a problem once I come back but I’m also worried about working, not taking the cat pay and then getting sick down the line and having no more options.

The cat pay ends on the 19th of next month. If you start now, you have 28(?) days. However if you decide to start it in like ten days, you only have eighteen. You should definitely take it ASAP, especially since the president is suggesting that people can start going back to work like normal starting Monday, and that might possibly be used as an excuse to not extend the possibly of cat pay.

That’s a great point. If it wasn’t possible to have the virus and be asymtomatic I’d feel better about it but thinking that dozens of people I’m coming in contact with could have it is...terrifying.

I felt guilty for staying at work as long as I did. I worked one more shift after the email went out, just to get clarification, and then harassed all my barasitas to tell my SM if they wanted to stay home so she could anticipate needs. And I put myself at the top of the list to stay home. The best thing to do is not leave you SM hanging. Tell them ahead of time, not 5 minutes before a shift. And if they retaliate after the virus well, keep you reciepts and fight it. The guidance we were given is insufficient and dangerous. I respect that Starbucks is trying to balance needs, but continuing to operate as we do is contributing to the problem.

Don’t feel guilty. Starbucks should feel guilty for being open during this time. They should’ve already been paying us thirty day catastrophe pay. We come in contact with too many people, it’s making the virus spread more.

Don’t feel guilty. I felt super bad beforehand, and then saw that in my store, only 3 other baristas took it. We have about 30 total baristas and then others coming from other stores. Logically, you’re only making about $3 an hour choosing to go to work. That’s definitely not worth anyone’s health and imo a slap in the face to baristas.

Same :(

There are times I feel bad about it. There just seems to be an attitude in my district that the partners who continued working in the DT are “heroes” and “serving their community”, while those who took the Cat pay are just cowering at home. Maybe that is just my perspective. I am trying not to feel guilty, but I also want to look after my own health and those who are vulnerable in this turbulent time in our world. However, I am just worried that going forward, I and the partners who took the 30 days will look bad and the partners who choose to work will be favored and be looked upon as the district’s “heroes” from here on out.

I used to feel this way, a lot! I understand how you feel. But I also kinda stopped caring too. Just a little. If they desperately need someone, they can call their ASM’s (who in my state make just under $40k) or the SM’s (who make just under $60k). They’re paid to literally be on call and if another store in their district needs help, they can be told to go there.
talkingelephants3 points3y ago
I also want to add that, in this scary time, they are also paid that much to be flexible and take everything day by day, because you never know what could happen (store closes, someone catches it, etc)

My manager thanked me and was very happy I took the 30 days. Do not feel guilty for it. My store with over 11 baristas got our choice and only 4 chose to stay. And they’re perfectly fine. Do not feel guilty for your choice.

If you are worried about not getting coverage, I wouldn't be. If where you are is anything like where I am, all the non-DT stores have closed. Those people are forced onto cat pay, and some would rather work. Because of this, if you were to go on cat pay, I am sure they would have no problem finding coverage. Just as much as physical health is important, mental health is even more so.
