I think it’s more generally about the fact that there’s a mask shortage, and medical professionals who absolutely need them are having a hard time getting them.

idk about the company letting/not letting you use one at work, but if you’re not already sick, a mask won’t help you. most people don’t know how to use them correctly and you’re taking away much needed supplies from medical professionals.

I've had people cough in my face. I've had to wipe off spit from my glasses. A mask helps in those scenarios, which happen several times a day.

Too many of our customers aren't taking precautions or being conscientious of us.

I have heard that most cases are asymptomatic so if a baristas got it but doesn’t know, they are perfectly poised to accidentally spread it to hundreds of people. I can see why wearing one would make sense even if you can’t protect yourself.

Soooo you’re saying a mask wouldn’t do anything to protect me because “most people” don’t know how to use them correctly? How do you know I do not know how to use one correctly?
What if I have an open box of surgical masks that I bought in November, that a hospital refused because they’re not technically sterile?
Don’t assume the worst of people.

i mean, i guess? google how to use them properly. most people will just get the germs right on their face right when they take it off. regardless of if you use them properly it won’t necessarily stop you from getting sick. you can also google the reasons for that as well, others can explain it better than me. i don’t think you will, but please don’t purchase any more! there’s a major shortage.

Again, “most people”. You know I could be in my last year of school to be a nurse right?
lindsayafton 4 points 3y ago
sure! and i don’t doubt you if you are! i’m just letting you know that most people put it on and take it off wrong, so you should make sure you know how to use it so you reduce your chance of accidentally infecting yourself. that’s all :)

I’ve heard it’s to keep a sense of normalcy for customers...gotta love the BS Starbucks spews out
EvenTheKitchenSink 3 points 3y ago
That’s basically what my supervisor said, that it would “freak the customers out”
But like Starbucks can’t do that can they? Can’t force us to not take precautions?

I saw an update on the hub that says wearing masks is ok, BUT they discourage it because they want to make sure medical staff has access to masks.
