Literally I sat in the parking lot and watched 5 customer come through the drive thru when we don’t even open until 6AM. Then one proceeded to wait in the parking lot and follow me up to the door because they obviously can’t read the HUGE signs we have posted in the window that only the drive thru is open. Then proceeded to ask me why...I- y’all this virus panic is literally making people dumber.

There are some crazy addicts out there. I can’t believe customers would wait more than a half an hour at our drive thru these days. The craziness extends to closing where we’re cleaning, lobby lights are off, doors are locked and people are still banging on windows trying to order. There was some guy that even managed to corner our shift to making his drink as he refused to leave. Another that drove up and knocked on the drive thru window when we were obviously closed.

When they sit at the speaker box for literally 20 minutes waiting for us to open and order 3 venti frapps. Who needs that so early!?!
MonstrousGiggling54 points3y ago
Honestly addicts. Sugar is a hell of an addiction

My drive through was wrapped around the parking lot all day, every day, since the quarantine. We had somebody outside to direct traffic. Customers kept saying "wooow this line is insane" to all i could respond was, "yeah, crazy how many people ARENT in quarantine". I asked one couple what they were doing today and they said, "oh nothing, we just decided to go out." : ) its actually kind of frustrating seeing how many people are contributing to the problem because they just absolutely needed their frap. I mean no disrespect to people who are coming to SB who actually need a drink or food because there might be very limited resources in their area. on a positive note: tips are up.

my favorite is the customers wearing surgical masks cause of the virus but then still pulling through the drive through. we love examples of 3rd grade irony.
basilandbeans29 points3y ago
Oh and then they pay with cash lol
stblasius21 points3y ago
YEAH! they wipe the outside of the cup with a clorox wipe while wearing gloves but then eat their food with those same gloved hands (with the same gloves!!) immediately after pocketing their change. hello??!

I love reddit. Makes me feel like my store isn’t alone in this craziness.

I’m sorry, but..... as a caffeine addict myself, I wonder: how hard is it to make coffee at home or buy a caffeinated beverage and keep it in your fridge? Waiting in a parking lot for a Starbucks to open is just delaying your fix.
People are weird!
ecbatic2 points3y ago
it’s so bizarre, I make my own cold brew at home and honestly it’s way better than Starbucks (and cheaper- as a partner it’s crazy to see people get the 5.00 cold brew every day!)
b2m0k25 points3y ago
There are so many out of work security guards that Starbucks could hire security guards if it's so "essential" to stay open. Baristas should not have to deal with this

The smart customers are staying home. Dumb people are flocking to SBux. Anyone else have customers that are trying to WALK through the DRIVE THRU? We have had to turn multiple people away because it's not safe and we can't be responsible if you get hit by a vehicle!
On the other hand: I'm very grateful for our regular customers who are tipping and being appreciative. Someone brought us donuts today. Not just regular glazed donuts, either. The fancy assorted box with all different kinds of icings and fillings.
stblasius21 points3y ago
someone tipped us a $100 bill yesterday, and came back today and gave us two papa john's pizzas! 😭
rendercilla9 points3y ago
That person deserves an award!
ashlynregier5 points3y ago
The problem with that is the “dumb people” you’re referring to have also told my husband while he’s in the window making a connection and doing his job well, that they are leaving the hospital from having PNEUMONIA. Like, for real? Coffee is that important?
Or the two mothers that tried to walk through my DT today with one double stroller each and one of the moms was pregnant? 5 children total AND themselves trying to walk through the DT? I’m......... shook.

We have a guy that’s been sitting at the speaker box for 45 minutes every morning waiting for us to open. It’s so irritating, the first time it happened we told him we didn’t open till 6 and he said he knows but he doesn’t have anything better to do so he’ll wait. Wtf asshole
ashlynregier3 points3y ago
Can’t he sleep in a little later and get there on time?
yeahcanigetuhhhh4 points3y ago
no because god forbid he has to wait behind somebody who got there before him
DualWeaponSnacker21 points3y ago
I was DTR yesterday and this guy pulls up.
Me (opening window): hey, how ya doing?
Him (holding cash): don’t touch my hand.
Cool. Good talk. Prick.

I've had multiple customers interrogate me about how often I'm changing gloves or have I checked my temperature. Today a man with two kids picks up his drinks and acts repulsed at the sight of me wearing gloves and says "Eww, Corona." While taking the drink from me. Then he informs his kids that any germs that were on my gloves are now on his cup. I'm sorry, if you're that worried stay the fuck at home. So frustrating and I literally have no idea how to respond in a nice way so I usually end up just saying ok or staying silent.
DualWeaponSnacker12 points3y ago
A woman handed me a sanitizer wipe while I was cashing her out, because she saw me take five customers before her. I was so caught off guard I just said “oh yeah we have those”. She abruptly goes “you’re welcome” and drove off. I don’t understand this new reality.
JonFawkes37 points3y ago
It’s a great combination of people being terrified and having sheer stupidity. Stay the fuck home if you’re that paranoid. I love having the customers that say “this is it” when I ask them what they’re up to for the day. That’s fine until they start acting irrationally. If your only plan is to go to SBUX and quarantine everywhere/everything else; you’re still taking a risk... that’s your choice. I had one lady basically tell me that everything was allowed to shutdown except for us. Obviously my immediate reaction was to laugh only to realize she was totally serious. Lol we lose brain cells every time we work. I love the job, but some customers can ruin OUR experience.
DualWeaponSnacker7 points3y ago
My feelings exactly. Our favorite regulars are at home isolating, as they should be. The crazies are out these days.

I was at a cafe store (not mine) the day before we went DT only and I got to be door bouncer. Well, we weren’t letting anyone grab mobiles just handing them to people to reduce contact. Ya know cause people gotta touch all the mobiles to make sure it theirs. Anyway, this woman goes to grab one and I’m like here I got those for ya and she then gets frustrated and says “well now you’ve touched my cup” never mind the fact that someone had to touch her cup to make the drink. So I just replied and said “well we’ve been washing our hands every 30 minutes and taking precautions” I think my response threw her off guard and she just walked out.

We have this one regular Bruce that we all love dearly and he's quite old. He came to the store and he's the only customer that we were honest with we just yelled through the speaker box "we love you Bruce but don't come here go home!! And I offered to give him some via packets if he didn't have a way to make coffee but he says he did and we were like we love you but it's not safe here!!" And he promised he wouldn't come back until all this was over
