how do raises work? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by jokillyourself
i’ve only been in the company for about 6-7 months now, but i feel like i deserve a raise. im a closer, and most of our other closers took the cat pay, so im stuck closing a lot. even before that i ended up closing like 2-4 days a week. the thing is, i always have to do more things than my other closers. whether it’s finishing things they forgot, or dishes that no one else will wash, i’m always the one that makes sure it’s done, or my SS makes me do it. this IS my first job so im not sure if im entitled to a raise, or if i should just care less and do my own work and make my partners worry about their own stuff.

Baristas have been asking for a raise for years. We don’t get paid enough period. It’s not just you. There’s tons of unions, petitions, and anger about how Starbucks treats it’s employees and how little we get paid for what we do, however, little want to stand up because we are expendable. And being expendable means those who stand up are risking their jobs; most people need this job. For those reasons, there’s almost no chance for us to get a raise unless enough baristas stand up United, which is extremely unlikely to happen.

there’s standard yearly raises that everyone gets in january that are a few cents and that’s pretty much it. but if minimum wage raises you just get a raise to minimum wage. you can ask for one, but I know great baristas who’ve worked at SB for 5-7 years and make a few cents more than a new barista

You’re more likely to be considered for Partner of the Quarter/promotion to Trainer or even a shift supervisor later down the line...keep up the hard work, you are appreciated! I was in your position, the super reliable closer that gets everything done. No raise, but I got all of the mentioned above (and the raise comes with the promotion at least)

yeah, i got partner of the week (that went on for about 4 weeks) pretty early on but besides that nothing. but from the other comments it sounds like raises dont come easily

Well currently you’re making an additional $3/hour for working but it’s temporary through the pandemic

I think you are the first person I have seen asking for a rise. You should be grateful for working in such an amazing company. Not everyone has the chance of working in Starbucks. Having so many partners that help each other makes the work very easy.
