Has anybody else served an extremely low volume of first responders the free coffee Starbucks so broadly advertises? My store has given out MAYBE 6-10 free coffees a day to first responders and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why there wasn’t more with the amount of advertising and credit Starbucks gets for “supporting” first responders.

My fathers a Lieutenant with the Sheriffs Department. Told him to stop by Starbucks on his way to work to get his free coffee, and to tell all of his coworkers and deputies to also come by and get what they deserve. He sends me a text about 10 minutes later that says there’s no way he can wait in lines that long. He drove to 3 different Starbucks and had the same result at each one.

Then it dawned on me.

From the moment the stores are opened until the moment the stores are closed that drive-thru line is nonstop. Customers ordering 6 Frappuccino’s for their screaming children and 5 separate food items. 10+ cars all waiting in line to bombard the stores with their ridiculously “essential” orders. What first responder has the time to wait in that line? Nurses barely get breaks as it is working their 8-10 hour days and now with Covid spreading through the country the first responders who actually deserve that coveted Starbucks experience can’t get it. So thank you to all the customers backing up lines with their absurd orders and NON essential refreshers and Frappuccino’s. They’ve ruined it for first responders needing that boost to their day. Desperately seeking a moment of clarity and peace to their now 30+ hour shifts.

My only hope is Starbucks does what they’re advertising. Prioritize taking care of the first responders. I personally feel like first responders should be allowed to walk up to the door and be taken care of at the door. We’re giving them free coffee anyways, no form of payment is required in a handoff exchange. Just the free coffee they’re entitled too, without having to deal with the massive line of Karen’s in Drive-Thru. I realize this is something Starbucks has said they’re working on with some form of Mobile Order hand off at the door but i’ve seen nothing official and we’re 2+ weeks into modified store ops. Should’ve been taken care of long ago. If they’re going to contemplate allowing a handoff for Mobile Orders; there should have been a better plan in place for first responders long ago.

We have started doing partner mark outs of our weekly benefit, grinding them, and bringing them to drop off at first responders stations. We pretty much call them and tell them “in 10 minutes 20 lbs of ground coffee will be waiting outside your front door, we appreciate you!” We usually split between hospitals and police/fire stations. It’s not a full on “WELCOME TO SBUX” but it’s a lot safer for all it seems.

My store already started the mobile order at the door. It alleviated a lot of drive thru pressure but some dumbasses think it means they can order even though in VERY BIG LETTERS THAT CAN BE SEEN ACROSS THE PARKING LOT it says MOBILE ORDER ONLY so there's that. And because of that a lot more nurses come through the DT during peak

I’m a partner but I’m also an EMT. I admit that I am trash, but I will go park my ambulance in the lot, and walk up to the drive thru after making eye contact with the car that should be next. I’ll only do it for mobile orders and the free coffees (mainly cuz I know they’re super fast to make/distribute) and I sanitize my hands before and after. I will stop an entire line of cars for approximately 30 seconds, idgaf. I work 24 hour shifts and sometimes I don’t see the station at all during that time.

Not all drive throughs are constantly bombarded by lines. Still have some ebbs. But we’re also taking multiple travelers to local hospitals, clinics, police stations, and fire departments to donate!

In my district, we are allowing emergency vehicles (Police, EMS, Firefighters) to come inside and order.

My SM and the RM went to deliver travelers of coffee and teas to local fire stations and police stations, so that could be an alternative?
