Questions to SSVs and SMs (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Psychedelic_Doughnut
Can a partner be threatened to be taken off a store schedule by an ASM if they refuse to go on window? One of my partners had this happen to them, and I just reviewed the Safety and Security training before this happened, saying that “you have the right to refuse unsafe work. If you any work you’ve been assigned feels unsafe, talk to your shift supervisor or store manager about it.” It seems wrong to be threatened with hostility, given that we’re a company all about ethics, morals and values.

Edit: Thank you guys so much. I really appreciate your help!

This is a company about ethics, morals, and values on paper. In practice, not so much. You have two real options. You can contact the DM or PCC to complain about possible retaliation, or alternatively just take the paid leave and wish them all adieu. Even better, do both of those things. Best of luck, comrade.

1. No because we've been specifically told to only put those on window who want to be there

2. No because weve been told that anyone who wants hours are to be given hours, labour is out the window (no pun intended)

Okay, I had a feeling, because that sounded really wrong. I wasn’t sure though. Do you have any sources I can cite in case I need to? Just in case I have a rebuttal brought against me.

Those points are from my regional and district managers... I'd call PRSC

Absolutely not.

So, there’s a lot of emotional responses. To answer your question: absolutely not — you can’t be taken off the schedule for a request such as that. That’s a textbook case of retaliation. A call to resources would be my recommendation in this case.

What should have happened: your manager would have to file a workplace accommodation for you because you are asking for your role as a barista to be modified — there’s some implications there if you are allowed different/preferential treatment without looping in resources and getting it on file.

Hope this helps!

That’s awful, definitely not. Call pcc and report it.
