So I have a friend who works at a grocery store bux and they’re refusing to close and not offering paid leave for those who are uncomfortable working. I know that franchise stores operate differently than corporate stores but this just doesn’t seem right. I want to help her but I don’t know how 😭 I gave her the number for partner recourses but I wish I had more information to give her.

Ya that’s what happens when you’re employed by a grocery store. Grocery stores will always stay open, so it’s up to them to decide what to do with the Starbucks.

Licensed stores are not starbucks. They just use starbucks stuff and you work for the grocery store. Its a whole different thing

i think tarbucks are different, but we closed down and were just moved to different areas of the store since target is considered essential. we don't have an option for paid leave so i'm still going to work trying to take advantage of the hazard pay at least lol

mine is still open and we won’t close for the foreseeable future because we aren’t employed by the bux we are grocery store employees which are considered essential :/. They could close the department down if enough workers didn’t feel safe and they had a union to back them up but even then it’s gonna be a fight. She could ask her manager to go on standby? That’s what I did

I’m a manager I have 3 people in self quarantine. I’m left with a trainee and 1 barista. The past couple days we’ve just been closing early. Around 4 pm and we’re the only one open around my area. There’s another Starbucks in my district and they only have 2 people. Grocery store managers don’t give 1 F about their people. They just care about the money coming in. That’s literally all we talk about during our “manager meetings”

My friend told me the store manager said they won’t be closing down because “we paid so much money for Starbucks to be here. No way are we closing it down.” ??? That’s gotta be the shittiest thing I’ve heard 🙃

Yeah, it literally just depends on the store manager. It’s annoying and frustrating especially as a manager and trying to find the coverage or people from other stores to help but literally no help anywhere. My SM told me the other day that we can close early and that he doesn’t expect us to pull 13 14 hour Shifts so that was appreciated

She’s not a Starbucks employee, so she’s not entitled to the same benefits as we are. She’s an employee of whatever grocery store chain she works for, so she has to abide by their policies and procedures.
