New Hire Cat Pay (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ScIONSSB
Hi all, I haven't posted here yet and literally just joined the sub. I've been working at Starbucks 3 weeks. I'm enjoying the job itself and I've been unemployed for a while, and I'm incredibly thankful to be working. Just to preface, I have been homeless since 18 (2 years), and am currently living with my partner, their father, his cousin, and his two children. My partner and their father are both unemployed due to lack of vehicles, and with many businesses closing it's even worse. His cousin takes care of the elderly.
So getting to my questions, there was another new hire who came on the same time as I did. He has been criticized for taking his leave because he'll more than likely have to retrain and quoted from a manager "probably won't be coming back."
It's clear to me they don't think well of him for leaving. Should I take my Cat Pay as well? I'm incredibly nervous about talking to my managers about it. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and thanks even more if you take the time to give any advice.

Do you have a relationship with any of your shifts? Or any baristas who have been around a while? If your manager is super unhelpful I would suggest asking people you trust before them. Even so, as long as you have finished training I believe you can take cat pay. Time at the company has no effect on it, I believe. However, even if you manage to talk to others that you know, you will eventually have to talk to your SM. Try being honest, say you need this job and you need it to be here for you when you get back, but you have the right to take cat pay. If they becomes rude or try to tell you you won't be coming back, contact partner services or reach out to your DM. Stay strong, stay healthy. I am so happy you have a safe place to stay. I wish you the best with talking to your managers.

I'm so sorry your going through that. At the store I work at my SM always gave us a chose to either take the Cat pay or the $3 incentive. The partners that I work with don't judge each other. We understand one another as well. We also have two stores in one store. Our downtown store closed down so their partners that want to work are working with us. Starbucks is a great company and you will have a job once thing go back to some what normal.
