SBUX DIY BULLSHIT (self.starbucksbaristas)

Ok ok i truly and whooooooole heartedly think YES we should be wearing face masks, it's just practical although uncomfortable. But to roll out a new policy WITHOUT PROVIDING the masks is sad at best, telling us to fold a Cold Brew filter in 3rds then strapping it with a rubber band is PATHETIC. Is that REALLY stopping the virus?? Probably not this is a brownie points ploy at customers, they'll be mad when more and more partners take cat pay

Lmao wtf, that’s bullshit. Take the CatPay. No need to look like a fool wearing a coffee filter on your face smh.

I thankfully have an SM who gives a shit and gave us proper masks
the1noir 15 points 3y ago
That’s great. I would’ve been so upset lol

Corporate is shipping masks to all stores. In the meantime they had partners at the trier lab figure out how to make masks from scratch with materials they have, really crafty of them to figure it out! It’s a worst case scenario but yup, CDC does say coffee filters work even better than cotton material folded over. We also have many partners making masks for partners and DMs are buying them from them!

This is what I don’t understand, they are TRYING their BEST right now. I get that everyone is stressed, but partners need to stop finding stupid reasons to be mad at corporate. They’re letting you take Cat pay if you don’t want to work, they’re providing thermometers to every store, they are making sure SS’ check with employees at the beginning of the shift to make sure they are ok with working, they are creating positive policy after positive policy. They are trying to protect their employees by adopting policies before most other businesses, which leads into this situation. I would guess they would rather start requiring us to wear masks when they can finally provide them, but with how the trends are going it’ll be far safer to enforce the rule now.

Stop trying to find excuses to be mad at a corporation in a corporate capitalist world that is trying to treat their employees better than any other greedy corporation.

The siren speaks through you partner!!! Couldn’t have said it better myself. Your store is lucky to have you!

Thank you for this, this is exactly what I've been thinking reading the things partners are saying here. I am so happy and grateful that I'm working here during all this instead of the last two grocery stores I worked at. Not to mention, the cat pay and the $3 raise were both things partners were saying they needed to give us, but as soon as it rolls out it's not good enough that they did literally what we asked for.

replying to an irrelevant part of your comment. but do we know what kind of thermometers they’re sending us? bc they posted that and i got scared it was gonna be icky and unsanitary.

i’m on cat pay so it doesn’t impact me. i’m just nosy and curious.

I had a phone conference with my DM the other day and someone on there said they were the laser no-touch kind. No sublingual thermometers!

I took the cat pay and have spent my time organizing community groups for building & distributing ppe. So ironically, when this came out, my partners had masks the next morning!

It's almost like Starbucks is paying me to take care of the community!

I’m really glad you’ve been able to take advantage of your time away from your store in this way. Thats really heartening to see.

Doing the same for my team since I sew :) feels good to help from home!

That's ridiculous. As an employee that is horribly allergic to rubber bands thats just an inconsiderate and overall poorly thought through idea by corporate....
C10ckw0rks 2 points 3y ago
We had to make weird bands out of plastic wrap because we somehow don’t have the rubber bands
IsaacStreeter 12 points 3y ago
There are medical professionals around the world who cannot get these masks, why would we. Take the Cat pay.
Alex_D-B 8 points 3y ago
Nah, we're not allowed to use medical masks, so not the best point.
might_not_be_a_dog 4 points 3y ago
Legally, I don’t think anyone can stop you from wearing more PPE than what is required. If you already own a medical mask, no one should be able to stop you from wearing it.

Covid droplets are ~100 times smaller than what cold brew filters are able to filter so they won't do shit
Virth 6 points 3y ago
I’m not even trying to be mad at starbucks or say the company is bad. I know they’re trying. I get the frustration from partners about this, especially because they gave us less than 24 hours notice for this to be mandatory.
Also, if I’m going to be completely honest, this just makes me feel more scared. Though, that has nothing to do with starbucks, just the state of the world.

I will say, however, that it is an OSHA violation to mandate us to wear PPE without providing said PPE. Not sure if making partners use cold brew filters is a loophole around that.

why are they not just closing all of our stores we arent essential this is fucking ridiculous
c_reckless35 -2 points 3y ago
Well "supposedly" they are supposed to provide mask. However id doubt that'll happen.
