That's pretty stupid. There is no sign of this slowing down in the US, and Sbux knows it can pull this because unemployment is about to be staggering.

They can’t keep paying people to not work indefinitely 🤷🏻♂️
Haxov2 points3y ago
But can’t they... I mean it’s not like they have a couple billion dollars or something....
TDogMurray1 points3y ago
That’s not all available money. Just because a company is worth that much, doesn’t mean they have it in the bank. At the end of the day, they did more for us than the majority of businesses, and we shouldn’t be upset they aren’t doing more.

So tired of people saying this. This pandemic isn't over. Because they gave us 30 days of pay we should be happy to go back to work and risk our lives for them? The choice is either force us back to work in the middle of a pandemic, therefore putting profit over people's lives, or actually putting their money where their mouth is and caring for their employees.

I’m glad we are reopening. If we don’t, we are laid off. Starbucks can’t keep paying partners to not work. It is what it is.

Partner works at starbs still. I wish he would be laid off so that he would be eligible for my country's emergency benefit. I don't want him seeing/touching/being around that many people every day, but if he quits he becomes ineligible for benefits and we would become homeless.
So. Death before decaf, I guess, literally
crzyshiba4 points3y ago
You can pick up shifts so you won’t be laid off
Ajskdjurj17 points3y ago
My Sm told us same thing last week. My only worry is come May the hours are going to be low around 15 hours.
crzyshiba4 points3y ago
But we can pick up shifts

They need to figure out something to help us. I can live off of 15 hours a week. Yea I’m lucky I have a 2nd part time which helps and gives me around 17-18 hours but still what about people who don’t have 2nd jobs.
crzyshiba2 points3y ago
Yeah so agree I don’t have a second job but I don’t mind picking up shifts buts damn it gets trying driving to all these stores although it’s good experience

https://www.reddit.com/r/starbucksbaristas/comments/fmvekg/shut_down_pay/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf. I’ll probably update this when the next quarterly filing comes out, but I can’t imagine the situation has improved. They’re limping along on the cat pay and absence pay they gave but I can’t imagine they’ve kept more than half their reserve through it.

At least in TX, an individual on unpaid LOA qualifies as ‘unemployed’ for the purposes of unemployment insurance. (1)
My plan? is to take the LOA and file for unemployment. I used a calculator on the TX Workforce Agency to estimate my benefits ($153/wk) which is separate from the feds $600 (part of the stimulus package). Essentially, I’ll be making $753/wk for 39 weeks/July 31st, whichever is first. (2)
