I dunno.
I love coming into work despite everything. I love giving coffee to tired, hard-working people with genuine smile, seriously, it's even worth dealing with a few Karens every day.
We're doing lots and lots of sanitization, everything is sanitary as hell and I'm proud to be a part of the example Starbucks is setting, but honestly I think we should close the stores.
I think it would be better to help stop the virus and have all of us stay home. A lot of young people are carrying around the virus and are asymptomatic, and I'm constantly worried about infecting my family and friends.
My father's lungs are bad (like hacking up a lung at 1am and me hearing it from the lower floor kind of bad) and I have 5 younger siblings missing vaccines etc
Yes, there is catastrophe pay, but it isn't an option for some of my coworkers, they need the income they are getting, and catastrophe pay isnt going to cut it for them.
I have finally taken the cat pay. Even though I really need the extra cash and benefits, I just can't toss and turn every night imagining all sorts of awful scenarios. ( also, Ramadan (month of fasting) is coming up and I would be famished working full shifts at 4:30am.)
Safety and the ability to stay alive is more important than money, and that's why I think above all full closure would be best. I understand the company would lose a lot of money, but that is a part of the moral dilemma we all are facing right now.
I feel a real pang of guilt when I imagine leaving my co-workers to deal with the everything, but I hope that they can absorb my hours and make more money, cause they really deserve the world ❤️
And to all of you out there working and on paid-leave, you don't have to explain your situation and reasoning to anyone, we are all stuck in this mess and dealing with it however we can 🙏🙏🙏 Good luck out there ☕
