Losing insurance? (Long post, but please help)(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by thelesbianbarista
Hey guys so with needing to come back to work after the 3rd I unfortunately do not have reliable transportation within the updated store hours (5:30-12pm and closed weekends) . My SM is going to only schedule me for the one day I can work which is Friday until our store hours get back to normal. This means I will only have 14 hours every paycheck and because I have the 401K and taxes AND insurance, I doubt I’ll have enough to pay for all of that let alone have any money left over for me. I was wondering if anyone knows what happens in this situation. I don’t want to lose my insurance since it’s not my fault the hours are so shortened. I asked about picking up other shifts at different stores but my SM called around and they don’t have availability for borrowed partners:(

There's a lot of different variables here. I would call the PCC to explain your situation and see if there's an alternative, either through sick time or vacation to get to 520 hours. It's also my understanding that you don't lose your insurance immediately after losing eligibility, I believe it's 3 months after the new start date, but I am really not sure; PCC should be able to answer that for you and will clarify what you're not sure with.
As far as income, I'd look into unemployment insurance in your state which I'm sure is real hard to get ahold of but it's worth a shot and you may be applicable. Also if you own stock, you might be surprised to see the value is holding up well considering everything else. It's obviously not as high as it was a couple months earlier, but it's still worth as much as if you sold it back in January, February of last year.

No problem :) You can also ask about Starbucks EAP as well with help with anxiety if interested. I don't know what their capacity and capabilities are currently due to covid, but the company offers six free consolingly sessions and other resources. They've helped me out in the past. Best of luck with everything!

I know while cat pay was in effect, those who took it & those who kept working wouldn’t lose benefits, you’d get the qualifying ‘hours’ regardless of avl hours worked or paid on.
Not sure- but I Also heard this May be the case up til August- which makes sense if store hours are shorter & peeps are getting fewer than usual .
Also- as of April 1st- we switched from EAP to Lyra- where you get 20 visits per year. There is info on how to sign up for Lyra (as well as Headspace) on the Hub.
But def. the PCC or PRSC is a good source of info on the benefits question.
Good luck, stay safe, be well!
