any other baristas living with health care workers told not to come to work? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to get some advice from fellow partners and see if anyone else was told the same as me. I'm from a Canadian store and I've been on CAT pay since April 13th (mainly to focus on school). When managers were informed about CAT pay being extended to May 17th my manager called to inform me. I had seen some things posted on barista Facebook groups where head office statements said to contact your manager if you are living with a health care worker - my mom is a nurse but since this pandemic reached Canada she has been essentially living in the basement, using a different bathroom etc, so I don't really come into contact with her.

After asking my manager about this, she called my district manager who said I am not allowed to come back to work until June 14th. My CAT pay will be extended till then so its not like I won't be getting paid, but my Feb average was very low in comparison to what I normally work.

Let me stress I totally understand why my district manager is suggesting this and I definitely wouldn't want to be asymptomatically spreading things to my fellow baristas but, I just wanted to know if any other partners have been told this by their DM or SM? I only planned on going on CAT pay till the beginning of May, so knowing that I will probably be off until mid-June is a bit of a shock.

So everyone has to go back to work after the 17th?

It seems like things are changing every day. For my district, CAT pay is extended to May 17th but if you don't want to come back, you'll have to go on an LOA, apply for CERB or EI etc.

I too am curious, is it extended or not? I swear every SM has their own interpretation of what Starbucks is going to do

We have a partner whose parents are in the health care industry, she is on leave because her dad puts her at a very high risk.
