Apparently the drive through line is our fault? (self.starbucksbaristas)

This is just me venting so I’m sorry in advance. Every single day since we’ve changed our hours (since we don’t have enough shifts) there has been a line out to the street all the way to the streetlight before our intersection! People call and complain that they have to wait too long and that WE need to do something about it and get it under control. It’s the people IN LINE making it a problem, we’re just doing our jobs! Our DT times are actually better now than they were before this... Today the cops in our town said if we can’t do anything about it they’ll have to shut us down :/ I’m just so tired of people being so demanding and entitled. We’re expected to bend over backwards for them but they don’t care about our sanity.
I’m still gonna work because I really need the tips and the +$3/hr but wow people’s attitudes today broke me.

I keep wishing they would switch to mobile order only. You pull up to the order box, state your name, order is confirmed, it's already paid, and then just handed out the window, possibly just set on the ledge while their window is closed, then we close the window, they roll theirs down and grab it.

Fast, organized, NO contact, NO waiting for them to figure out their order.

What, exactly, do the cops propose you do?

They just told us to “get it more organized” which is literally impossible because of how the entrance is positioned. They’re the cops, shouldn’t they be the ones to direct traffic??

To a certain extent, I think it could be cool to see more places handle drive thrus in the way that many Chick Fil A locations do. They have iPads taking orders outside and if there’s a line, they can walk up to the next car to keep taking orders. It works really well and really smoothly for Chick Fil A.

I literally went through the entire drive thru in like a whole minute there when a similar amount of cars would’ve kept me waiting 20 minutes at McDonalds. The people who pay with credit cards and gift cards pay with the people using the iPads. Then they usually have an extra person outside in between the window and the people with the iPads to give you the receipt and to pay with cash, so it’s always paid for by the time you get to the window. There’s no such thing as adding on at the window in that system. I can’t help but wonder if a similar system would be more effective in taking control of the long lines that go into the street.

I like that idea but I’m a little uncomfortable with the amount of person to person contact that is versus just the one person at the window who can wash their hands in between. A lot of the partners at my store aren’t even comfortable working at the window. I do think it would help with the people pouring out to the street though. ESPECIALLY by eliminating the adding on at the window but I think we don’t have the means right now.

Yeah also need to take into account that fast food joints likely have some sandwiches on the warmer or fries already waiting, that kind of thing. Every single drink has to be custom made, might just not work the same.

Plus starbucks customers are much more hostile in a weird way than I've seen in any place I've worked in the past 8 years. Yeah, I've had bad customers then but these people are something else....
