To recreate French vanilla for the customers that ask... would you use vanilla and hazelnut or vanilla and toffee nut? It’s driving me crazy
Em1389 157 points 3y ago
I've never in almost a decade of starbucks land heard of it being vanilla and toffee nut.

Always done hazelnut.
ellenino89 4 points 3y ago
Same, but sounds good though. I like to do half hazelnut half toffee nut in my iced coffee and it's super yummy 😋
Em1389 3 points 3y ago
I do the same! It is super yummy, I always feel our toffee nut is under appreciated.
The_Worst_Barista 136 points 3y ago
Vanilla and Hazelnut, just let them know you'll be using Hazelnut along with Vanilla. Had a lady flip claiming she was seriously allergic to nuts, and never knew our French vanilla contained hazelnut syrup. It was her usual order for "forever", she was so going to sue.

None of the starbucks syrups contain actual nut tho
The_Worst_Barista 73 points 3y ago
Oh I know. She was done listening to anything I had to say. Even offered to read the list of ingredients, nope she wanted to speak to my supervisor. Who guess what, was me. Apprently I dont know what I'm talking about. 4 year shift at the time.
ericanicole1234 16 points 3y ago
I mean to be fair you are the worst barista
MonstrousGiggling 19 points 3y ago
Bitch
babycakees1997 3 points 3y ago
Same thing happened to me, lady probably just needed to take her bad day out on somebody. Don't worry about it, you can't fix stupid
The_Worst_Barista 3 points 3y ago
I stopped worrying about 2 years into working this job. I now find all this funny, and tell any partner I'm working with if any one is giving you a hard time come get me I'll deal with them. I've dealt with it all, perks of being a very roasted bean.
furry_anus_explosion 32 points 3y ago
I always did hazelnut
Pomitlicious 12 points 3y ago
Whats the ratio? 2 vanilla and 2 hazelnut?
ananalikethefruit 15 points 3y ago
I usually do 3 vanilla and 2 hazelnut or sometimes 4 vanilla and 1 hazelnut! I find the half and half is too hazelnutty and doesn’t taste the way customers expect it! Since it’s not an official drink I usually just ask how they want it
StarbuckianDee 10 points 3y ago
Omg ill do this! I’ve been trying to nail the french vanilla flavor for a lady who says we never have. She will always say ‘hmmm no, this doesn’t taste like France’ and will take it claiming its fine whatever she’ll drink it as is. So annoying.
for_real_analysis 3 points 3y ago
Lmao that’s the worst! I’m getting angry for you haha
furry_anus_explosion 6 points 3y ago
I do full. Probably should do 2 in 2 now that i think about it
PrisonRiz 5 points 3y ago
I always ask the customer if they prefer full or half pumps of each
moggymoggo 22 points 3y ago
Hazelnut... what the heck who said toffee nut
Alicat-and-Quasar 16 points 3y ago
Never ever heard of using toffee nut. Always hazelnut for french vanilla
FlyingQuokka 12 points 3y ago
Customer here. I’d be astonished if I ordered a French vanilla flavored drink and got toffee nut. It’s hazelnut and vanilla
datbootyphat 8 points 3y ago
Just the normal amount of pumps split between each syrup based on the standard beverage recipes!

i.e. 2 pumps Vanilla and 2 pumps Hazelnut for a grande latte. :)
CrystalizedCage 5 points 3y ago
We usually ask “double sweet or half of each?” Because we have just as many customers who get it each way
datbootyphat 6 points 3y ago
I used to ask this as well but found that it wasn’t worth my time, since most people wanted standard pumps or less.
Could be a regional thing, bc I live in a very health-conscious area.
Most of the time people who get iced coffee or cold brew get double pumps compared to those ordering espresso based beverages!
CrystalizedCage 4 points 3y ago
Perhaps regional! I’m in upstate NY. We get a lot of 8-12 pump beverages at this store. It isn’t my usual one, where I don’t have such a high median of pumps. Dunno!
CrystalWitchBitch 8 points 3y ago
Definitely hazelnut
romansapprentice 6 points 3y ago
French vanilla is vanilla and hazelnut. :)

I think you may be mixing up that combo with the salted mocha caramel drinks? Those are mocha and toffee nut.
ptvsupernatural 6 points 3y ago
it’s 100% hazelnut and vanilla since we don’t have an actual french vanilla syrup
cush4 3 points 3y ago
Anyone who uses anything other than Vanilla & Hazelnut has not been trained properly. It’s equal split amount of pumps Not Double the pumps
sawawastar 3 points 3y ago
Vanilla and hazelnut
Ypsiowns3013 3 points 3y ago

kait_lynb 3 points 3y ago
I’ve never heard of it being with toffee nut lol. I’ve always been told it’s hazelnut and that’s what I’ve always rung in
whatismineisyours 3 points 3y ago

mon1411 2 points 3y ago

Panik963 2 points 3y ago

Vanilla and hazelnut
helgathehorriblez 2 points 3y ago
Vanilla and hazelnut
TheWallTheVeil 2 points 3y ago
Hazelnut but I always use vanilla bean powder instead of vanilla because French vanilla is (or at least was 18 years ago when I first worked there) made with a powder and hot water mix. I find it gave it a more realistic flavour
foxxy_roxxy 2 points 3y ago
Hazelnut
Sillaaaa 2 points 3y ago

shawnp6298 2 points 3y ago
It’s absolutely hazelnut.
