Should I have not took the catastrophe pay? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by tvyo
My store manager said we would not face any repercussions for taking the COVID-19 leave. However I go back to work May 5th and noticed several others including myself that took the leave have our hours cut. Another barista said our store manager was upset that we took the leave.. What can I do? Anyone else with this same problem?

My hours were cut the first week but the second one has 5 more hours added on. I think they’re just struggling to get back into balancing out schedules , especially if your store still has reduced hours of operation. That would be a bitch move if your manager is specifically targeting people who took cat pay because it’s offered to everyone and you aren’t supposed to face back lash when you come back. I would wait a couple of weeks and see how your schedule looks after that

Not only did I take the cat pay right away, I used a few sick days before it started bc my mental health and anxiety took a huge dive. I thanked my partners for filling in and explained what happened to my manager. I have 10 more hours than I usually get on the first schedule back. Give it a couple of weeks before worrying. Things will probably be crazy and unbalanced for much of May.

Speaking as someone who didn't take the CAT pay, tbh if my hours got cut when everyone came back, I would be rather livid and feel kind of fucked over. I don't expect the overtime of course, but the hours I'm used to. You guys should also be getting your hours too but maybe things just need to be balanced out again. Tis troubling times and we're physically and mentally exhausted yo.

Hopefully it´s not repercussions... it´s most likely due to the lack of hours available due to the new business model and shortened operating hours.

The good news is that for the month of May, Cat Pay will supplement up to your average baseline hours. The hours that you actually work will be Premium Pay (extra $3/hr). You´ll actually be earning MORE while working less.

For example, I have a partner returning from Cat Pay who has a baseline average of 30 hours. On my first schedule, I only have him for a total of 12 hours for the entire week. So, he will now get paid a total of 12 hours at Premium AND Cat Pay of 18 hours! He will make MORE by working less. This is for the entire month of May.

I see alot of people complaining about LESS hours. Unfortunately, your Store Manager needs to do a better job of re-assuring their partners about what´s available to them. Starbucks as a company is taking good care of their partners!

we should still be getting our regular hours comped through the end of May :)

Your average hours are covered by cat pay until may 3rd, but if your SM is singling out their partners that took the leave then that is on them. If you notice the same thing happening to all partners who are on cat pay then make sure to contact your DM about the situation or simply hash it out with your SM.
