We could accomplish so much if we worked together and used collective bargaining. We are the ones who do the labor, so why do we let Kevin Johnson take so much from us. We all deserve better pay, better access to health insurance, more vacation and sick time, and we all deserve the right to work in an environment where we are not verbally and sexually harassed by patrons who belittle us and our work that they demand. I ask you my fellow workers, why not unionize?
CriticalSheep61 points3y ago
Because we can be fired if we try to unionize. Plus most stores are populated by teenagers who don't understand what it means to be in a union. In order to be official and as organized as possible, we would need official and universal content to be spread to all stores somehow without raising red flags of corporate and we would need to find people to act as our "union reps" also without getting fired before it's made official.

I agree most of the partners are young and don’t really care for if you get your break or not, pay 💰, working conditions idk it would be hard

Can’t deny that we should be thankful for what Starbucks offered us during this pandemic time but come on guys, let’s be serious. The CAT pay should be extended and the people that chose to work for the company during the pandemic SHOULD GET PAID MORE. I got another job at a restaurant and they offered us to double our hourly pay + tips during the To Go Operation. Comparing to Starbucks, I don’t believe they make as much money but as you can see Starbucks don’t treat their employees good enough to live up to their image. Sad but truth.
gaayrat2 points3y ago
I just said this on another post but Starbucks gives us just enough so we’ll feel guilty asking for more and obviously it works
nckg247 points3y ago
Because starbucks already treats us all pretty good tbh

Then why does the thought of going back to work make me seriously want to take up self harm again? Something to talk about with my psychologist I guess. Starbucks isn’t the worst job I’ve ever worked, far from it. It’s just so pointless and I hate myself for risking my life for... what exactly?
AgeismyCSscore0 points3y ago
Not sure why you're getting downvoted on this comment, but if that's any indication, it would be hard to organize your workers especially with a hostile corporate structure suppressing that kind of activity. Be well ❤️
AgeismyCSscore3 points3y ago
I'm also getting downvoted, but have been upvoted before for suggesting unionizing and wishing others well. Lol reddit

This is my thought when I see these posts. Other retail businesses are soooooo much worse. Better access to Health Insurance? What other retail company offers to part timers?
Chesterfield_S-1 points3y ago
This honestly is so true lol... it’s never enough for most people. We got the CAT pay and a lot are still griping it wasn’t enough, chick fil a doesn’t treat the workers half as good as Starbucks does... but that’s just my opinion. A lot of fast food places aren’t offering employees extra pay or anything, Starbucks does it and it’s “not enough 🤦🏼♂️”
gaayrat9 points3y ago
“We got cat pay and a lot are still griping it wasn’t enough” yes because we’re still in the middle of a pandemic and they’re forcing us back to work!! What about that isn’t clicking for people?
Chesterfield_S-1 points3y ago
But other companies forced their people to work through it regardless. We at least got some time off during the worst of it. Again, just my opinion lol
nckg24-1 points3y ago
Exactly! We got benefits, stocks, higher pay than most, and we were literally offered a month and a half of paid leave!

Because we'd all be fired if we tried.

As horrible as the job may get sometimes we should be grateful we have a job and any sort of income. There are people who have lost everything from this. Jobs, homes, and peace of mind. At least we have a job to go to to pay our bills to keep a roof over our head. This job has been a life saver for some myself included. This is a scary time and Starbucks is doing they best they can with what’s happening and that’s a lot more than others. You gotta see the positives sometimes and hold a steady hand.
BeardiesRule1121 points3y ago
Calling this job a “life saver” during a world wide pandemic...........
cardawbal2 points3y ago
You have a job that’s paying your bills and feeding you so yeah a lifesaver. If you all hate the job so much then quit. This job has done more for me than any job. I don’t understand how you all can hate something so much that gives as many benefits as it does. You could work for company’s that don’t care if you live or die. Also a pandemic that arose literally the end of last year doesn’t define how the job affected my life before that. I’ve worked for this company over 2 years and as stressful as it gets sometimes I won’t deny all the good that has came from it. Maybe this isn’t the road for you.

I don't know about most stores but remove a few outliers and our store average age is prob 20...
also few people see being a barista a career/long term job...
