How to properly wash dishes! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dmm181
Hello my fellow partners! I am preparing to return to work back on May 4th and I have kind of a silly question about washing the dishes. I became a partner at the end of November last year and wasn’t really trained on anything due to poor management! Lol so I feel this is a great place to ask a really stupid question. So the way I have always washed the dishes is rinsing them off, washing them with the blue soap, then sanitizing them. My question is do I have to rinse the dishes a second time after they have been washed with the soap? I put the dishes in the sanitizer right after they have been washed when they still have soap bubbles on them. I also put them in the Hobart with soap bubbles on it. IS THIS THE RIGHT PROCESS!?!? DOES IT EVEN MATTER? Just thought I’d ask because I thought I read otherwise on here. Thanks for anyone that helps! I’ll probably ask my basic questions in the future :)

So the 3-compartment sink method is to wash the dishes with soap, rinse off the soap, then rinse the item with sanitizer water and set it aside to dry. It seems weird to not rinse the sanitizer off, but I believe it needs to dry on the dishes for a full antimicrobial effect. Dishes that have been cleaned in this way don't have to then go through the Hobart - it's an either/or situation. If you do use the blue soap on dishes that are going into the Hobart, I recommend giving them a quick rinse first especially if they are tall items like 2 liter pitchers; in my experience the dish machine doesn't always get the soap bubbles off. Sorry you had poor training, I'm a 12 year partner so feel free to ask any more questions!

Thank you very much for the help. It makes more sense to me now. I’ll for sure ask more questions that come to mind! :)

Is it ok if I dm you questions that I have? I have been a partner for almost a year and I am “self taught” because I wants trained properly.
