Anyone work at a Starbucks inside a hospital? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BlueeyedSea
I work in a corporate kiosk inside a children’s hospital. We’ve been closed down since mid March.

We’re opening back up on May 7 and I’ll working pretty consistently there.

I think we’re just doing mobile orders and we wear masks, but anyone else on here have advice from those who have been working in hospitals.

I’m a little nervous.

We aren't required to wear masks rn, so I haven't been, its been SO much slower than what we're used to. We usually would average a little over $2000 a day, now a busy day is $1000.

The thing that irritated me the most (I took a small vacation, just got back), was having to hear everyones theories and opinions about the virus. I don't really care what you think is "really going on," this is the situation we're in, and I'm sorry its SUCH am inconvenience for you to not be able to use your personal cup.

Yeah I’m gonna have a hard time not snapping at people. I remember right before we closed, nurses were like begging me (I’m a shift) to not close the kiosk lol. Even though I didn’t have that kind of authority

We get INSANELY busy. It’s downtown and next to 2 college campus’s so we average around 4,000-5,000 on a weekday. Mainly mobile orders.

I have very low tolerance for dumb people and also being paid very little for (what feels right now) a high risk job even with the extra $3 raise Starbucks is giving us I’ll be at $15 an hour finally lol.

BUT I don’t feel too much resentment but more worrisome and thankfulness for what we have gotten so far.
Just unsure what to expect lol!

Totally relate. I was getting very snappy before i took my vacation (plus a lot of personal factors, i couldn't handle working). I had a lot of anxiety, and that coupled with people being jerks for no reason, it was too much.

Out of curiosity, what state do you work in?

I’m in Michigan lol.

And yeah, I’ve had some experiences with people lol. One lady wanted me to meet her outside to beat me up cause I wouldn’t refund her lol. It’s insane. It’s definitely upped my anxiety and anger issues lol!

I work for a licensed store in a hospital through my college. It’s really slow because half of our customers were the students and then a lot of the people who actually work in the hospital are working remotely.

Personally, I wear a mask every day and so do all of my coworkers, except my manager (he thinks everyone is overreacting...infuriating). But most of the customers wear masks too and are very respectful of keeping space away from each other and the bar.

My hospital screens everyone who comes in and asks them a set of questions and even takes their temperature. I feel pretty safe, I sanitize the doors and near the register every 30 mins and we have a 15 minute hand washing timer.

The only time I feel unsafe is sometimes we get tiny rushes in the morning and there’s about like 15 people in our really small lobby waiting for drinks and it makes me feel really uncomfortable. I asked my boss if we could hang a sign that only allows X many people in at a time and he basically laughed at me.
