Have any trans employees ever actually gotten Starbucks to cover any trans related medical procedures?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ReEliseYT
The whole reason I started working at Starbucks was for their benefits for trans people (I’m a trans girl, she/her pronouns). The first sixth months I was happy to work for the company, knowing that eventually I could have surgery and finally be comfortable with my body. Then I tried getting them to just pay for the comparably cheap procedures you need to do to even be considered for surgery and ran into a wall of red tape. They need to talk to my doctor, then they need to see if they will cover the business doing the procedure etc etc...
When I was looking back over things, most of the wording says they will reimburse you for surgery or anything else. Well there is no way I could save up that much working as a barista, especially considering that theirs nothing concrete saying they will pay you back.
Long story short, has anyone actually had Starbucks cover anything more than $100 for trans related care? I don’t mean the insurance you pay them for, I mean Starbucks covering what insurance won’t. I can’t tell if I’m being paranoid and cynical, or if I really fell for some corporate bullshit recruitment tool.
I want to have hope, I want to think their is a reason for me working here. I so desperately want to have some one tell me Starbucks actually came through with their promise. I’m feeling utterly hopeless and depressed, and I would love for someone to tell me that Starbucks actually helped them with gender confirmation surgery.
🌈Thank you for your time, and I’m so sorry for being such a cynical pessimist.

One of my good friends is a trans she/her starbucks partner and from wheat she's told me, Starbucks reimburses her immediately after all of her surgeries. So if you had a way to maybe take out a loan or put the amount on credit, that can hold you over until after the surgery when Starbucks reimburses you

It's not my experience but I know another partner at my store used the insurance to cover his top surgery but again I'm not 💯 on what he had to pay or go through

They covered my FFS and were reimbursing me for electrolysis. had to stop the electrolysis cause the reimbursement was taking so long to get that i couldnt afford it to begin with. And then as far as I know theyre still covering my BA the only downside is i still have to pay the 2k down payment out of pocket but since i work here i live paycheck to paycheck and cant. Its a long arduous process but they have been helpful. the way healthcare is run in this country is fucking criminal and it we had actual govt healthcare it wouldnt be necessary to begin with. so on one hand im glad i dont have to pay a giant bill for my FFS but on the other im stuck in a job i make no money at and am too mortified to leave. I am also not sure if they cover hormones because i get my for free thru pfizer because i am so poor

Also not my experience but we had a partner begin transitioning to non-binary. They had mentioned multiple doctor appointments and calls regarding hoomones and other various things. I don't know the details since it wasn't my business but i believe it can be done

One of the baristas at a local store is trans (FtM if it matters) and said he only has stayed at Starbucks so long because their insurance helped him transition

You need mental health help, nothing more. You are mentally I’ll if your brain is telling you that you are something other than what you actually are, like seriously stop being so damn self absorbed and look around, people have real problems in this world and you are being selfish trying to get other people to pay for you to cut body parts off.. you liberals are seriously in need of some serious reality checks. You have fallen so far from grace and have allowed yourself to be completely manipulated .. it’s mind blowing how you people can’t seem to notice the social engineering going on. The people pushing this hate you

Wow I never heard that before! I guess I should tell my Psychiatrist and Psychologist that after years of treatment helping me through transitioning and providing me hormones and the reams of scientific journals that support trans people transitioning, that they have wrong all along! Thanks random redditer you’re, expertise has changed my life lol XD

Nice reflection there. I hope you get support in the “real life” problems you and anyone around you are going through so you won’t have to look at others as an obstacle. Life is too complex to be attacking lifestyles that don’t align to yours when they are harmless. The moment you mentioned liberal showed how ignorant you are on this subject and your beliefs are hand-me-down. I hope you don’t work for Starbucks (or buy their products) because every time you clock in you’re supporting the very thing you use your free time to rant on.
