Hi guys! I know this is seen as a pretty rude question but I'm just looking to see if there's a possibility for higher pay. I'm looking to move to another state and I'm needing a little higher income soon. Sorry it this is rude! Also, I'm in Texas! I forgot to put that before
dittyquadrant61 points3y ago
Barista in NYC, been with the company since 10/2019...I make $15.02/hr. But cost of living in NY is absolutely ridiculous so assuming you're not in NY and thinking of NY, I don't know that coming NY is a great option for you if your'e looking for a balance in wage vs. cost of living.
ItsMamaB [OP]9 points3y ago
Yeah, I'm in TX and looking to move to NM
JHOOOOBI7 points3y ago
Dude. I’m from NM! Santa Fe baristas get paid the most in the state. But it’s also mega expensive to live there. So do what most people do, live in Abq or Rio Rancho and commute to Santa Fe. It’s. 30 minute drive or so but baristas there do make the most. Feel free to DM me if you need any info or help. :)
ItsMamaB [OP]2 points3y ago
Yeah! I'm wanting to move to somewhere around Albuquerque. Somewhere like Taos. Are you a shift or a barista?
JHOOOOBI1 points3y ago
Taos is pretty far from where abq is at. And I’m a barista.
simpliciTia1 points3y ago
, m.p 8h
monikitiki983 points3y ago
Same goes for California. Making near that buuuuut cost of living is high in California
JustForBrowsing49 points3y ago
Not rude at all! If we're all transparent about our wages and how little we are paid we can all work to increase pay individually and as a collective.
Delaware here and it's 9.75 starting but I make 10.25 woop
espressnooo1 points3y ago
Oh my god I'm a barista from delaware! How fricken crazy is that. Upper or lower?
JustForBrowsing1 points3y ago
Newark ✌️
littleedge29 points3y ago
I’m not an employee but never feel like it’s rude or weird to discuss wages. It’s the only way you can make sure you’re being paid fairly and your employer isn’t hiding anything.
Kill the stigma! Talk about money!
danslavraievie25 points3y ago
At the Sbux in Target in Indiana I make $13.60 but I think the Sbux across the street pays $11 and then inside a Martin's it's like $8
_Pulltab_6 points3y ago
Can confirm in Indiana corporate baristas make 10-11 depending.
gringita971 points3y ago
Yep...worked there for over a year to make a whopping 10.17
ItsMamaB [OP]6 points3y ago
Are you a barista or are you a shift?
astivana36 points3y ago
FYI baristas at Target are Target employees, not Starbucks employees, so they tend to have higher wages but not the same benefits.
danslavraievie4 points3y ago
We don't have shifts lol I'm just a barista
raychelelaina4 points3y ago
I interviewed at a corporate store before taking my job at a Tarbucks and they were going to pay me $9.something (as a barista). This is near Purdue in Indiana
danslavraievie3 points3y ago
Woah what? That's so weird bc Target's minimum pay for everyone is $13... and the Sbux inside target is owned by Target. If I say my town I'll give away the store I work at but I'll just that it's near Notre Dame. Is the Tarbux you were gonna work at connected to something else?
raychelelaina2 points3y ago
No I work at the tarbucks and they do pay $13. $15 with hazard pay right now (and I’m working elsewhere in Target because they closed starbucks). The CORPORATE starbucks I interviewed at was going to pay me $9.something. Hence why I took the Tarbucks position
danslavraievie1 points3y ago
Oh gotcha! I totally misunderstood !!
Meduka__2 points3y ago
I used to work at a tarbux and my god target (at least mine) is a shitty place to work. Management sucked there. Ended up applying to a corporate store and the benefits were almost worth the pay cut. Though I did get more hours to make up for it. I was also sick of being alone all of the time, especially during happy hour and holidays.
danslavraievie1 points3y ago
I agree, we have the same problems at my Tarbux. I've also considered switching to a corporate store even though they pay less bc overall I'd end up making more money with additional hours & tips
ilovebrandonj19 points3y ago
Generally barista wages are around minimum wage so it would depend on that states minimum.
ItsMamaB [OP]12 points3y ago
Yeah, I'm in TX where the minimum wage is $7.25 but I make $9. I'm trying to move to New Mexico where the minimum wage is $7.50
ilovebrandonj22 points3y ago
Wow that’s a low minimum! In my state minimum moved up to $12 in january and baristas make about $12.10. Before that minimum was $11 and baristas made $11.02 lol
TylerTheBox5 points3y ago
Tbf Texas has an incredibly low cost of living.
ItsMamaB [OP]1 points3y ago
Yeah, but I live a little outside of Dallas so it's still kind of pricy out here which sucks... Especially trying to move
PompadourPrincess2 points3y ago
arizona? cause they didnt even raise me to 12.10. they moved me from 11.02 to 12.02 and its just insulting honestly cause they tried to pass it off as if they gave me a raise and not that they legally had to do it
JustForBrowsing2 points3y ago
VA minimum wage is 7.25 still too ffs
[deleted]1 points3y ago
But aren't va wages like 10 - 13 depending on the area?
WastingTime19941 points3y ago
Are you in CO? That’s the same as it is here
ItsMamaB [OP]1 points3y ago
Oh dang! What state are you in?
Alybear914 points3y ago
In TX as well, I’m a shift making $12, $15 with the wage increase. Six year partner tho. I definitely feel I don’t make enough.
[deleted]3 points3y ago
[deleted]
ItsMamaB [OP]3 points3y ago
How long did it take you to work your way up to a shift?
Alybear912 points3y ago
Like a year maybe lol my boss loved me and naturally I’m a very nurturing and detail oriented person who works above and beyond because that’s just...me? I got kinda screwed over when they changed the pay rate after I had been a shift for a year. The new shifts getting hired were getting paid the same as me.
Leafygreens151 points3y ago
Oregon is great if you don’t mind the weather! Our minimum wage is $13.25 in the Portland metro area
_Pulltab_1 points3y ago
Indiana’s min is 7.25 and I started at 9.87. Make a little more now.
dopaminebaby18 points3y ago
I am in Florida. Working 40-42 hrs a week I make ~350-375 after taxes.
curlygreenbean15 points3y ago
Gosh. Florida fucking sucks. I’m so sorry.
rosallia13 points3y ago
As a person from Florida I agree.
czjab8kedp5 points3y ago
Omg Florida fucking sucks.
3aTroop16 points3y ago
Not enough 😢
Jordan21167714 points3y ago

ItsMamaB [OP]2 points3y ago

lucasbaker2 points3y ago
So is this Canadian Dollars? If so that's about 12 US Dollars
Jordan2116771 points3y ago
Yah it is it’s good pay in Canada though honestly
captain-slammi11 points3y ago
Florida. Shift. 11 an hour and rent for an apartment can vary from $500 to $1300
jessie_eh11 points3y ago
I’m a barista in Florida and I make 9 an hour and my rent for just a room in a house is 600
beingalivesux6 points3y ago
hey, just wanna say this question isn’t rude at all! corporations successfully keep wages low by discouraging employees from disclosing their pay rate to their coworkers. if we don’t share what we make, others won’t ask for a raise. you should always know what your peers make and how it compares to what you make! to answer your question, I’m at $16.02/hr in SoCal. I live outside of LA county so I make less than Californians living closer to Los Angeles.
renee421026 points3y ago
$13.75 in middle NY. I also work on a thruway so it could be a bit higher as I’m HMS Host and not corporate.
mtngirl_5 points3y ago
I work in middle NY too at a corporate store and I make $13.77 so it’s basically the same
ReEliseYT6 points3y ago
Ohio, 12.00 an hour. It’s not nearly enough, especially after paying for insurance 😫
brizzabella1 points3y ago
hey! I'm thinking of possibly moving to OH (most likely cleveland. If you don't mind asking, where in Ohio are you?
ReEliseYT2 points3y ago
I’m in Mentor, about 30 mins outside of Cleveland depending on how much of a lead foot you are. I do like Cleveland, and while you could certainly do worse than north east Ohio, there are also a lot of place way better. Lake eerie is beautiful in a terrifying way. Be for warned, once you move to Ohio it’s really easy to get stuck here.
hellocomputer-humans6 points3y ago
Southern CA 13.02 before covid
girlwhoplayswithbugs5 points3y ago
Georgia. Barista. $9.50/hr. Apartments where I live and work start at 1000/month.
ItsMamaB [OP]2 points3y ago
Oh my gosh! Do you have any roommates or anything or is it all on you??? That's super high!
girlwhoplayswithbugs2 points3y ago
Luckily Starbucks is not my day job. (Pest control is) I literally work for the fun of it as coffee is one of my passions, right next to entomology. I also enjoy the human contact since I don’t get much of it these days as I no longer work in the field but in the office now. It’s humbled me to see my partners working their asses off to make ends meet. A lot of my co workers live in the same complex as me and live together.
I truly don’t understand how people are supposed to live on this type of wage, but that’s for another conversation completely.
Jay-rodMo4 points3y ago
I make 9.50 when I was hired last summer. I’m from Georgia
beingdaddysgirl4 points3y ago
I was with the company for nearly 15 years when I left in May of 2019, I left the company as a barista, but had been management and stepped down of my own volition. When I left I was making $12.50 and was topped out in Ohio.
ItsMamaB [OP]1 points3y ago
What state were you in?
beingdaddysgirl3 points3y ago
Ohio
ItsMamaB [OP]3 points3y ago
Lol... I'm so dumb 🤦🏻♀️ my brain didn't read that at the end...
nerdheartRN4 points3y ago
Florida. 7 1/2 years. Supervisor. Make $12.36 an hour, after leaving for a year so my pay reset to base.
themosttotaltrashh4 points3y ago
in ct 12.02 but since the pandemic 15.02
ashleyghost4 points3y ago
As a shift in NYC, 2 years go, $17.85 As a shift in Florida, $12.80 :’)
the thing is...is i was able to live on my shift wage in NYC. i can’t live ANYWHERE in miami on $12.80 between rent and car payments. so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Madame_Deadly3 points3y ago
Miami was ridiculous -_- I miss it sometimes but not the rent part lol
[deleted]4 points3y ago

soysaus523 points3y ago
don't feel bad about asking what coworkers are being paid! the discomfort around talking about income only benefits employers who don't want their workers knowing that they could be getting paid more if they asked.
lessthansymbol-33 points3y ago
I’m in Canada. And every time I see you guy talk about wages it makes my heart hurt. I can barely pay rent on my $24/ hour... idk how you guys do it under 10
baristabeaux2 points3y ago
with the exchange rate, that’s probably only about $17 here, and the Canadian average tax rate is like twice as much as the US, so honestly if you live in a big city or somewhere where the cost of living is high, $24CAD isn’t a ton of money. I make $9.30/hr, but my I only pay about $400 rent a month, so working thirtyish hours, I make plenty of money to live a decent amount left over.
AndrewtheRey1 points3y ago
Ooh and what state are you living in paying $400? 👀 are you in a super rural area?
baristabeaux1 points3y ago
Kentucky. I wouldn’t say it’s a super rural area. I live in a college town, but also only 45 minutes from the 5th(?) biggest city in the state. (But keep in mind after Louisville and Lexington the numbers drop pretty fast.)
AndrewtheRey1 points3y ago
I’m in Indiana and I’ve only been to Kentucky once and I don’t remember much of it
ItsMamaB [OP]1 points3y ago
Oh I'm struggling right now lol. Especially because I have health issues so I'm in need of health insurance and constant doctor's visits 🤷🏻♀️
Vosstonmass13 points3y ago
Oregon here, currently make $16.35/hr as a shift lead. I’ve been with the company for almost 10 years and still feel that this pay is too low for the time I’ve put I and the effort the company wants you to make. The cost of living on Portland is pretty high so it’s not really a livable wage. I’m married and my wife is in grad school so the student loans help make it seem like we are ok but it’s not. There is a limit to what you can expect as a barista/shift and at some point you have to decide if you wanna move up and lose more of your soul to make more money or just move on to another industry
Panik9632 points3y ago
11.04 as a shift in KY...it sucks when you dig your job, but could work at a Tarbucks for $15 an hour...benefits are decent, but I need money. Strongly considering it....
ItsMamaB [OP]1 points3y ago
Do you still get partner numbers and a partner discount working for a Tarbucks?
Panik9631 points3y ago
Only the Target discount...no mark outs etc. but I work 40ish hours a week...so the extra $150ish in pay a week squashes markouts etc. Plus the lack or responsibilities, in my state...makes it a pretty easy choice. I worked at a Tarbucks before, more Karens, less coffee snobs, I appreciate prolly 70% of the ‘snobs’ bc I consider myself one and love conversations about coffee...so I said that with good intentions lol. But sometimes you get that dude that insists looking over your shoulder while making them a pour over, or someone counting seconds on their shots....
jnjku2 points3y ago
$9.50/hr. Not a shift and I live in the Eastern District of Texas
alo-san2 points3y ago
I make $15.02 (regular pay, not hazard) and live in Los Angeles :)
tsmcrw1 points3y ago
Same!
alo-san1 points3y ago
Hey gurl (or guy) heyyyyy. It’s been nuts for me at work lately. Hope you’re doing well!
tsmcrw1 points3y ago
I hope you’re doing well too! We’re working on reopening our cafe after COVID sanitation, so we’ll be open for mobiles tomorrow (:
alo-san1 points3y ago
Same! Except my cafe store doesn’t open til the 4th :( what’s your store’s general area?
starsickles2 points3y ago
Im making 13.13 in CT
zorbss_2 points3y ago
Work in Alabama and minimum wage is $7.25. I made $9 cause of “experience” and age but some people make about $8 as a barista. As a shift, I make $11. It varies in a couple of cities within though because our cost of living definitely fluctuates within the state.
AndrewtheRey1 points3y ago
I am paid 9.75 an hour and I’m in Indiana. It’s pretty low pay, but I needed a job so I took it

how do you like your store?
ItsMamaB [OP]2 points3y ago
How do you like yours?
holdenthesecoronas1 points3y ago
i love my coworkers, they’re like family to me. my store is rough tho we’re one of the busiest stores in the US, but the traffic keeps us busy and makes the shifts go by fast. i love it and hate it but mostly love it cause of the people i work with.
ItsMamaB [OP]2 points3y ago
My store is alright. I have one shift that is unbearable to be around but it's okay because they're leaving in around 2 weeks! It will get a lot better soon.
holdenthesecoronas1 points3y ago
glad your bad shift is leaving. crappy shifts can make work hell.
holdenthesecoronas1 points3y ago
nice, i’ve got family in dallas and also north of dallas, some around fort worth and and some denton. cool spots if you know where to hang
crzyshiba1 points3y ago
Cali here $15.02 but of course it’s expensive here
GLIcy1 points3y ago
Florida shift here, still new so starting was a little over 11
643dp1 points3y ago
Chicago. 10 years. Shift. $17.27.
Meduka__1 points3y ago
In Ohio, regular barista pay is $11/hr I believe and Tarbux is around $13-$15/hr. It was rumored that it was gonna go up to $15 around the time I left Target. That was December last year.
Edit: Forgot to mention, cost of living is pretty low in north east Ohio :)
Alicat-and-Quasar1 points3y ago
Batista in NC ~$9.50 before corona
bompwa1 points3y ago
In NY, making $13.75 before CAT pay
Walagemini941 points3y ago
I live in CO, just 30 min drive away from NM/CO Border. I work at a Safeway SBX as a barista. Started at 11.25 and now at 13.75 after just 6 months
ItsMamaB [OP]1 points3y ago
How did you go about getting the pay raise? Did you ask or did your SM ask you?
Walagemini942 points3y ago
SM asked me. We have a small kiosk so it's only 6 of us including SM. I just feel very fortunate to have my current SM cause she does appreciate what my effort even though I was just a green bean 6 months ago.
Furiosa_xo1 points3y ago
15.17, barista in Los Angeles, worked for the company 7 years.
Kaywin1 points3y ago
Welll..... Remember that cost of living is tied to our pay, at least in my state (CA) and region (Los Angeles) you start basically at minimum wage. I think I make a little less than 15 or 16 an hour at this point before hazard pay. I don't remember exactly.
kyle_shrewz1 points3y ago
West Virginia. Been with the company about 18 months, started at $9.20 and now at $9.66

im in NY, i make $13.77 regularly, $16.77 with the extra $3/hr

Cali here!! We make $16.50/hr for baristas. I believe $20-22/hr for supervisors.
Hermione1171 points3y ago
I’m in florida. i make $14 as a barista. right now with cat pay it’s $17. but that’s bc of the hurricane that wrecked everything.
AllMacNoCheese1 points3y ago
$14.50 as a shift in a licensed store in CA, only allowed to work 25 hours a week max though
allie_would1 points3y ago
I'm a barista in WA I make $13.52 an hour the minimum is $13.50 I've been with the company for almost three years ☠️ But cost of living in WA anywhere besides the Seattle area is not bad. I manage just fine.
radical-monster1 points3y ago
In WA, minimum is $13, but I’m a shift and I make around $16.50, but right now cause if the $3 raise thing in the US I’m making almost $20/hr.
delidoll1 points3y ago
Chicago suburb and I make $13.05!
indigod0g1 points3y ago
SSV, CA, since 2018, $18.41
cody_18491 points3y ago
I work in Texas, not a shift. I’ve been with starbucks for almost 5 years and make under $9.70/hr. I have partners who got hired a couple months ago making the same thing I am when I had to work my way up from $8/hr. It’s honestly insulting.
Izuhbelluh1 points3y ago
NorCal Bay Area, $18 working in sbux inside a Safeway. It sounds nice, but cost of living in Marin/sonoma county is insane and also, weekly + end of the month union dues suck.
_javier001 points3y ago
I make $16.50 in Utah .

If you’re looking for a job to financially support your Starbucks is not the place. Baristas and shift supervisors don’t typically get paid a living wage. But if you want to work for 20 hours a week and get awesome benefits while working 20 hours a week at a higher paying job (serving tables or bartending) its the right place to be. Whenever I interview I always ask “why Starbucks?” If anything along the lines of just moved here, need job, need money come up, it’s an instant “sorry this isn’t the right place for you”.
echowolf91 points3y ago
Shift in the Bay Area. I make almost 20 dollars an hour but it’s really expensive to live here. (I would be making 23 if I was working atm)
beepboopvianney1 points3y ago
Las Vegas minimum wage is around $8/hr i believe! i worked in a licensed location part of the casino so i made 13.85/hr bc we were considered casino employees. my boyfriend worked at a corporate location making 9.50/hr. i know another casino paid around $17/hr because their workers were union

Barista, Louisiana 9$/hr :s
Arith_Medic_WasTaken1 points3y ago
Up in a busy part of Colorado starting is 12.50 I'm at 15 after about six months. Shift managers start around 15.

$10 and some change here in the Las Vegas area. Been with the company for almost 4 years
Velvet35351 points3y ago
$9.54 in Florida
toriamae1 points3y ago
Pittsburgh barista and I make $10.75 an hour, which sounds super low but cost of living in Pittsburgh is dirt cheap. I’m able to pay my rent in a very nice neighborhood of the city and buy groceries with about 25-30 hours a week! Edit: PA minimum is $7.25 so $10.75 is about as high as you can get in the service industry
tsmcrw1 points3y ago
California, LA county, 15.30 an hour
[deleted]1 points3y ago

tsmcrw2 points3y ago
My shifts make 17 or 18 starting I believe, they also get WAY more hours
Morpho_Satri1 points3y ago
Western NY, I get $13.77 before covid pay as a barista, shifts are at $16.77. When I was in Ohio I think I was making about $10 after two years, at a downtown columbus store, while minimum wage was about $8.75, iirc. Rent wasnt cheap, but if it had been my only bill I MIGHT have been able to scrape by.
Anyone know how much MA, specifically Boston, area stores make? I've been thinking the same as OP recently....

SoCal —$15.14 an hour before corona hit
TylerTheBox1 points3y ago
Just keep in mind many people will be making more than you, but they usually live in a place with greater inflation. Us Texas make $9-10/hr while someone else in the thread (NY) makes $15.02.
Having never been to NY personally, I assume that everything probably cost even more (relatively speaking), so there’s a good chance there real wage is less than ours!
kaliking91 points3y ago
i live in Olympia WA it’s $13.52 but a lot of people that work at my store commute from other towns close by cause the cost of living in Oly is high
kait_lynb1 points3y ago
Colorado partner here, under normal circumstances I make $12.02/hr
lepetitfilet1 points3y ago
Until very recently I was a barista in NM and I was making $9.56 an hour. Albuquerque isn't that cheap of a city so it was actually kind of a struggle.
ItsMamaB [OP]1 points3y ago
That's where I'm wanting to move. I'm thinking about moving to Taos. I want to have a job that pays more so I can actually be living and not just surviving
NineTeenAnd531 points3y ago
I’m in VA, starting barista pay is $9.14 so right now I’m making $12.14. Paychecks are typically $300-400 every 2 weeks (20-25 hrs a week). Minimum wage here is $7.25 so for a quick serve restaurant type job, pay is solid.
Tairou1 points3y ago
WA Seattle Area $15 or so for Baristas and $18 for supervisors

PlatinumPetey1 points3y ago
13.50? in az?
Slockss3 points3y ago
In Phoenix, yes lol. I have past experience as a shift lead at another coffee shop which i think has helped play into my pay

I need to get back up there then. Im down in tucson from phx originally

NV Albertsons licensed tops out at 14.50/hr. Management is pretty easy to get into. Starts just under 17/hr full time. Pretty good insurance.

I make $9.15. Apparently our shift runners only make like $10. I used to be a supervisor at a fast food place and was making like $12.75 but I quit bc of manager being manipulative and super transphobic while pretending to support me. I did take a pay cut but in the end it is worth it because now I have insurance that will pay for top surgery and what not that I desperately need.

$9.50 and I live in Austin, TX so it's nothing because cost of living is so high here
taylorthenavigator3 points3y ago
Can confirm. Live in central Texas. Baristas make 9.50 and shifts 11.50+.
ItsMamaB [OP]3 points3y ago
Yeah, I'm like an hour and a half from Dallas so things are pretty pricy here as well.
poetixvirgo5 points3y ago
Everyone thinks TX is cheap but most don't know how high it really is

Truth!

Central VA, min wage is 7.25, baristas make around 9, and I think I make like 12.
