Barista in NYC, been with the company since 10/2019...I make $15.02/hr. But cost of living in NY is absolutely ridiculous so assuming you're not in NY and thinking of NY, I don't know that coming NY is a great option for you if your'e looking for a balance in wage vs. cost of living.

At the Sbux in Target in Indiana I make $13.60 but I think the Sbux across the street pays $11 and then inside a Martin's it's like $8

Generally barista wages are around minimum wage so it would depend on that states minimum.

hey, just wanna say this question isn’t rude at all! corporations successfully keep wages low by discouraging employees from disclosing their pay rate to their coworkers. if we don’t share what we make, others won’t ask for a raise. you should always know what your peers make and how it compares to what you make! to answer your question, I’m at $16.02/hr in SoCal. I live outside of LA county so I make less than Californians living closer to Los Angeles.

Oregon here, currently make $16.35/hr as a shift lead. I’ve been with the company for almost 10 years and still feel that this pay is too low for the time I’ve put I and the effort the company wants you to make. The cost of living on Portland is pretty high so it’s not really a livable wage. I’m married and my wife is in grad school so the student loans help make it seem like we are ok but it’s not. There is a limit to what you can expect as a barista/shift and at some point you have to decide if you wanna move up and lose more of your soul to make more money or just move on to another industry

Welll..... Remember that cost of living is tied to our pay, at least in my state (CA) and region (Los Angeles) you start basically at minimum wage. I think I make a little less than 15 or 16 an hour at this point before hazard pay. I don't remember exactly.

If you’re looking for a job to financially support your Starbucks is not the place. Baristas and shift supervisors don’t typically get paid a living wage. But if you want to work for 20 hours a week and get awesome benefits while working 20 hours a week at a higher paying job (serving tables or bartending) its the right place to be. Whenever I interview I always ask “why Starbucks?” If anything along the lines of just moved here, need job, need money come up, it’s an instant “sorry this isn’t the right place for you”.

Shift in the Bay Area. I make almost 20 dollars an hour but it’s really expensive to live here. (I would be making 23 if I was working atm)

Las Vegas minimum wage is around $8/hr i believe! i worked in a licensed location part of the casino so i made 13.85/hr bc we were considered casino employees. my boyfriend worked at a corporate location making 9.50/hr. i know another casino paid around $17/hr because their workers were union

Pittsburgh barista and I make $10.75 an hour, which sounds super low but cost of living in Pittsburgh is dirt cheap. I’m able to pay my rent in a very nice neighborhood of the city and buy groceries with about 25-30 hours a week!
Edit: PA minimum is $7.25 so $10.75 is about as high as you can get in the service industry

Western NY, I get $13.77 before covid pay as a barista, shifts are at $16.77. When I was in Ohio I think I was making about $10 after two years, at a downtown columbus store, while minimum wage was about $8.75, iirc. Rent wasnt cheap, but if it had been my only bill I MIGHT have been able to scrape by.

Just keep in mind many people will be making more than you, but they usually live in a place with greater inflation. Us Texas make $9-10/hr while someone else in the thread (NY) makes $15.02.

Having never been to NY personally, I assume that everything probably cost even more (relatively speaking), so there’s a good chance there real wage is less than ours!

Until very recently I was a barista in NM and I was making $9.56 an hour. Albuquerque isn't that cheap of a city so it was actually kind of a struggle.

I’m in VA, starting barista pay is $9.14 so right now I’m making $12.14. Paychecks are typically $300-400 every 2 weeks (20-25 hrs a week). Minimum wage here is $7.25 so for a quick serve restaurant type job, pay is solid.
