I am not letting anxiety ruin me.(self.starbucksbaristas)

So tomorrow I am scheduled at a diff store and I’m so anxious. I’ve been working here for a few months but I feel like I’m always messing up, don’t know how to do some things, and bar scares me. I’m great at window and drive at the same time it’s my fav. But anyways.. I am not going to care so much and apologize so much. I’m gonna keep my mouth shut and roll with it. The key is to care less while just doing your best.

hell yeah! working in a different environment than your used to is always weird and especially if you don’t know who are working with. Bar can be a lot but development comes with time and practice! Keep doing what you love and don’t be afraid to branch out 💚

DONT FEEL DUMB!!!! Bar can be incredibly difficult and stressful. I have been with Starbucks almost 5 months and I was never trained.......... so I understand how anxious bar can make you feel. We all didn’t have prior barista experience so of course it’s going to take each partner a different amount of time to understand how bar works and such. You are doing great! :)

Keep practicing and you'll get it. I didn't really get the hang of bar for at least 6 months. Using a cheat sheet with numbers of pumps and shots helped me a lot. I taped it to the wall so that I could look at it quickly and not have to ask how many whatever go in something every 10 minutes. I'm a 3 year partner and these newer, complicated drinks still mess me up. I really wish that we had a simplified menu with less gimmicky drinks.

Working at new stores is always anxiety inducing. Just make sure you let the shift lead know where you’re most comfortable. Don’t be afraid to get to know new partners and don’t be afraid to ask questions like “where do you guys keep this?”, because in the end you’re there to help them and they should be willing to help you too! Have fun!

Thank you! I hope I approach each day with confidence ✨

You'll be fine. Everybody makes mistakes. My only advice is just to step up and ask if you are unsure about something. I'd rather have a new barista that asks questions and does things correctly than a new barista who just does stuff incorrectly with uncertainty.
puglovinhoe [OP]2 points3y ago
Oh I Ask 647473 questions but they’re usually the same questions cuz I don’t have time to write it down and a million things are happening at once 🥵

All good Haha! Also, I've been a barista a bit over 2 yrs now, so if you ever have any questions or wanna rant or whatever, you can PM me 🤗

So sweet of you! I will probably end up doing that haha

the secret is you don’t have to make them perfectly every time, just close.
puglovinhoe [OP]1 points3y ago
Woah Lowkey you just saved my life
chinfox1 points3y ago
haha you can’t be perfect! cutting your losses sometimes can help with the stress and how fast paced it is to bar.

Shift supervisor will place you where you are most comfortable No worry about mess up

Have you taken advantage of the Headspace premium subscription Starbucks offers? I’ve begun using it, and it’s been an incredible tool for taking hold of my anxiety and increasing my focus. Would definitely recommend, 20/10.

Yes!! Lean on your team to teach you as you go. Express you want to develop on bar or other roles and get comfortable. Everyone makes mistakes, all the time. But we roll with the punches and grow. I usually tell new hires about how in my first month as a barista, I probably sent out 200+ caramel macchiatos without vanilla in them. Took me about a year to feel confident in all aspects of my barista role. It takes time and a willingness to continuously learn! I’m still not totally certain on all my cold foam recipes, I always have to ask my team which milk to use or where the syrup is pumped.
