Mandatory staff meetings? Is any other store doing this?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cancerofcolor
My SM sent out a group text letting us know there is a mandatory staff meeting taking place over 2 days next week. My store remained open and I opted for the catastrophe leave so I haven’t worked in weeks. So going back to my store starting with a staff meeting doesn’t make me feel any better. Is any other store doing this? I may be overreacting but knowing that my city hasn’t taken this pandemic seriously I have my concerns.

My store closed a few weeks ago so it’s not necessarily the same, but we did have a phone conference meeting with everybody from my store and the district manager. We went over everything about reopening, how the schedules were going to be different, cat pay and the leave of absence, etc. We closed before the masks were required, so we talked about that too. I wouldn’t be surprised if your store was trying to have a similar type of discussion but edited considering your store never closed. I wouldn’t worry about the meeting much. I don’t think the city not being strict on the virus doesn’t mean anything for Starbucks, since everything done by Starbucks has been the national policy.

Stores are bringing in partners to get them trained on the new business model along with adjusted operations and summer training. It’s normal to do in person. Starbucks has also consistently been ahead of what state, local, and federal governments. There is Starbucks presence in China so they were preparing for it in the US since December.

My meeting for my small cafe for all the baristas is tomorrow for one hour. It seems a bit ridiculous to have a mandatory meeting with 15+ baristas in the store all at once, considering the size. And to top it off, masks haven't arrived to my store yet so my SM just said "bring your own mask", but I know there are still people who don't have one because it isn't mandated in my county to have one when you leave the house. Definitely seems a bit silly to me to call all of the partners in at once, when the most partners there will be on a shift is 6, which is still a lot of people to have crammed behind one bar and there is no way we can social distance from each other.

This was my main concern as well! Especially after doing so well social distancing and staying home for weeks, it doesn’t feel right starting with a meeting with over a dozen partners.

Every store has to have these meetings. It’s two meetings, one that take two hours and the other takes three. It’s Starbucks mandated. Your SM will have the information you need.

We just did our staff meeting as a video conference call. Our SM and DM went over all the new policies and procedures, and made sure that we knew what to do when we reopened.

My store is doing this also! We closed a few weeks ago because we didn’t have enough staff and I’ve been on catastrophe pay since all of this started. Our meeting is this weekend split over Saturday and Sunday. We’re getting paid for it though apparently.

I was notified of this today. I think it’s specific to the people who are actually working. My SM told me they were mostly to inform us of new procedures, whatever that means.
