Hey guys, my store manager called me last week or so to inform me that if I wanted, after May 3/4/5 (I don’t remember which exact date for the paid time off ended) I could continue to take 30 days off, just unpaid.
I decided to take the 30 unpaid days since my state hasn’t hit its covid-19 peak yet and I can afford to take the unpaid time off. However, today my SM called me and let me know I need to call corporate to put in a leave of absence.
I don’t know why, but I feel uneasy suddenly? Will anyone else be doing this? Is there any reason why I should be uneasy? Is there anything I should follow up with/ask my manager about before i decide to take it?

My entire store is all returning, and I have mostly heard that every is returning. My manager never informed me personally that I could continue taking 30 days, even if it is unpaid. All I was told was “return on May 4th and whoever doesn’t, doesn’t have a job.” However, I don’t think that is ACTUALLY the case?
That being said, if you feel like taking the 30 days will benefit you and YOU feel safer, by all means do so. They cannot penalize you for feeling unsafe in the workplace. Maintains YOUR mental health over the company, please!

If your SM actually said that, contact your DM or ethics and compliance hotline. Unpaid LOA is available to every partner but they have to initiate it through PRSC.

The LOA is managed through Sedgwick, a third party company that handles all leaves. It’s just the process. Nothing to worry about.

The district manager had a phone conference with all of the baristas from my store. He told us about the leave of absence. It’s not going to be turned down but technically you do have to apply for it. After the 30 days, you’ll have to decide if you want to continue working for Starbucks or not. If you have questions, talk to your manager but don’t feel about about taking the absence if that’s what you decide to do.

I’m an SM, so just an fyi it’s nothing to worry about! applying through Sedgwick is super easy & you’ll get approved for it. and if you feel like coming back before your 30 days you just call them and tell them! don’t stress 💖
